It was a quieter than usual Thursday nite ride. Most of the usuals were there...
Fabio had some very Fabio specs on. They were almost as bling as Pyne's American Classics - Warren, they are NICE wheels... I have ridden a set, but ended up fighting to hold my bike upright in the slightest of breezes. Dip dish wheels and I don't play well together.
Someone in a Tonka truck had carted a bucket load of mud over the industrial estate road which made for interesting riding as did the x winds. Speaking of x winds... boy was I struggling. Am I just in the box or does anyone else find them challenging?
Who got the kick? Don't ask me. I was rolling in off the back somewhere.

Bontrager Bling

From early 2009, Trek will be including the Bontrager shoes in the range of products available in Australia. Expect to see them on the shelves of M1 Cycles.
I've already checked out the catalogue - as you would expect - to find the bling. Here's my choice - the WSD design. Pretty cute if you ask me. Mite be a good coffee shop shoe... mite not be so good for the Shillings road dirt section... white and dirt don't really mix.
Anyway, check them out and watch the new shoe display at M1 for their appearance.
Farm Boy Heads To The Big Smoke
Our resident time trial specialist - he's the one with the VERY special time trial helmet - Farm Boy, is heading to the big smoke this weekend to compete in the Noosa Triathalon.
Thankfully, he's only doing the ride leg of the teams event, but even so, I'm not sure what posesses' someone to want to time trial for 40ks? Hmmm... thought about it and nope, I still don't get it.
I'm sure Marty will go well (as always)... and I'm sure he'll have a tonne of fun.
The Noosa weekend is full of action with the Men's and Women's criterium being held on Saturday with the Triathalon on Sunday.
You can follow the event and results at www.usmevents.com.au/ntmsf/index.html

The Medium Ride
Hmmm... Peter Rabbits mother once said - If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. I'm trying to apply this principle to last nites "medium" ride.
My motor is small and my heart is big... but sometimes my mouth is even bigger!!! Nah, the ride was pretty good, a +32k average around the block. We had 7 riders, then 6, then 7, then 6 and finally 5.
Marty was in TT mode, doing an effort across the way whilst the remainder of the bunch did 1 minute dog rollovers, cruising along around 36k/hr. The River Ranch hill circuit was enjoyable as usual.
Good to see Bloomers and Warren B join us on the ride. Woody's still in base mode and Matty Druitt... don't forget to put petrol in the tank next time.

The Sunday Jaunt

With all these great intentions of doing the hundred a small Sunday group gathered opposite HJs at 0600. (Ian, Alison, Steven, Woody, Jordy, Bloomers, Joan and myself) But I think the enthusiasm levels were a bit low all round so we took off for a nice leisurely trip around the block instead. The flat tyre came early today with Jordy pulling up just over the Calliope River. This was probably just as well as 2 very large police escorted wide loads trundled past during the repair.
Poor Bloomers had some spoke issues (what the hell is wrong with your wheels man!) the day before so he borrowed a nice little Norco from Ian and Alison.
Just over Dog Hill we were overtaken by some of Dave’s crew, who swapped some genial pleasantries then powered away in to the distance. But that’s ok, we were just cruising.
Once back home I&A invited us around for tea and cake! Myself (with Carmen) and Bloomers made it and had a lovely morning eating Noel’s banana cake.
Cheers,
Jake

Project One
For diehard Trek lovers, the Project One site allows you to customise your dream bike with colours, designs and personal touches. There's some standard designs like the Lightening Strike and Flame or you can go all out and do your own thing.
The colour choice is pretty impressive aswell and there's plenty of pink. Both Performance and Pro fit Madones bikes can be customised.
To have a play go to www.trekbikes.com/us/en/projectone
Just be aware that the prices on the website are US dollars... and given the current economy, don't expect a great conversion to Australian currency!! The Project Ones have a price.

Cakes N Smiles
Apparantly, it is a proven medical fact that women gain a two inch smile when their husbands lose two inches from their waist. Just ask Alison.
And who is the roadie amongst us that ate 4 pieces of cream cake and demolished a large pack of sweet chilli chips in one day?... hmmmm any guesses???

Rider Profile - Warren Buchanan
What bike do you ride?
Currently a Trek 1400 but have just ordered a Madone.
What would be your dream bike?
A Titanium and Dura-Ace number, no bling just performance.
What's your day job?
Maintenance Tech / Facilitator / Planner @ Orica Chemicals
What's your favourite ride?
Mooloolaba to Noosa on the David Lowe Way. It follows the coast and that part of the country is good on the optic nerve weather riding or having a brew.
Most memorable biking experience?
This years Mt Cootha challenge with Croz/Farm boy and Russell (Farm boys brother).
Least memorable biking experience?
First ever ride on wet road, came off on entry to roundabout and did ligaments in both knees resulting in 2 months off bike and donating large portion of salary to physio.
Bike rider you admire the most?
Stuart O'Grady - An Aussie lad who's had some bumps along the way but fights to the end (also proves that bald guys can ride).
State Crit Results
Although returning to Gladstone last nite without medals, both Matty and I are pleased with our performances at the State Crit yesterday.
Matty's race busted apart from the start. One rider broke from the gun, but he was shortly joined by two other riders who bridged the gap. The chasing bunch couldn't work well enough to bring back the break away. Mind you, by the end of the race, there was less than a third of the field left.
Matty won the bunch kick, despite having a friendly chat to a southern rider in the last lap of the race. Something about lazy hundies on who was the best sprinter in queensland.... an argument I wouldn't want to have with Matty.. and obviously, this rider didn't know who the King was!!
After my message from Cycling Queensland that "as a result of my performance in 2008, I was returning to A Grade Women", I was a little nervous about the crit. But, to my surprise, the training paid off and I was comfortable in the race... even bridging a few gaps to riders attempting to get off the front and hitting a bit of wind myself.
After the weaker riders were dropped, the pace picked up and stayed firm. Coming into the final s bends and the last corner, the pace was above 50k/hr with the pink train (Marcelletes) leading out their gun rider Kirsty Broun. We hit the finish at 58k/hr and Kirsty was just too strong with that sort of lead out.
None the less, I was pleased to be feeling strong and there for the finish. Watching the finish with Matty was our relocated rider - Karen! It's nice to have a bit of support down south.

Happy Birthday
This rider picked up the 2008 Mechanic of the year award and has ridden with the M1 Cycles crew since pretty much day one.
At some time or another, Bron's worked on all of our bikes, paid extra attention to detail and made our rides more pleasurable. Thanx Bron.
To you Bron, the M1 riders wish you a Happy Birthday and we all hope you have a great day.

Winds From The West Wednesday
All we were missing on last nites ride was the wicked witch from the West. Strange winds were blowing causing headwinds in unusual directions and the conditions were very dry. Bizarre.
The strange conditions kept the numbers down.. although dogs were whispering that Farm Boy was sick - or was that sick of J Hickey? All of the Young Guns were missing except for Matty Druitt. Fabio must be too afraid to show his new hair-do in the pack.
Bic was in the box, BIG TIME. But, I guess you can expect that when you attempt to ride whilst on nite shift. Woody was drifting off the back of the pack in base mode.
Squeak squeak squeak went Chris' chain....

State Criterium
Matty and I are heading to Brisbane this weekend for the State Criterium Titles that are being held on Sunday.
Matty will be racing 40mins + 3 laps and I will be racing 30mins + 3 laps. Start times are 12pm for Thunder and 2pm for Kittstar.
You may be thinking that the race times are not very long, but let me assure you that they are EXTREMELY high intensity. For me, I operate at an average of 185+ heart rate. My max heart rate is just over 200 so, that gives you some idea of the effort involved.

Trek Time

Well I've found a funky little product that's just been released by Trek. Its called - Trek Time.
It takes cycling computers to a new level of coolness - as you can see from the picture. They show distance, time and speed. Not high tech, but high on the bling factor. A must have addition for the serious bling rider.
The downside is that Trek have already sold out of these hot little puppies. But don't despair, a new batch will arrive soon from the US.
Watch my bike dashboard for their arrival....

Tuesday Ride - Late Edition
News from the Editor is a little slow today due to the reality of work commitments in the real world!
Anyway, today's ride was anything but a roll in the park. Was it just me, or did anyone else think that the pace was on from when the bunch sped off Auckland hill??? It's easy to tell when the pace is firm when there's only 4 left pulling turns at the GPA roundabout.
IJ took out maximum points today claiming all major sprints. Job well done.
We had the pleasure of being joined by the new Queensland Trek rep on the ride today. For anyone who didn't guess it, he was the guy in the red Trek gear on the red 2009 Trek Madone. Funny that hey. Jokes aside, he's a great guy.
Another decent sized bunch today, which is great to see. A few of the regulars were missing. Mick & Kat have an excuse... but Scottie...hmmm??? Noel made a return to the pack on his custom bling machine.

Tuesday Morning Accident
An unfortunate incident has occured after the training ride this morning. Jake was T-boned at an intersection near the nightowl centre. Fortunately, Jake is still in one piece however, was taken to hospital where he was going for x-rays.
His bike is the less fortunate one and has been written off.

Sunday Paparazzi

Under the cold grey clouds menacing Gladstone this morning four intrepid riders met up for a Sundy Hundy ride – Joan, David K, Woody and myself. Notable absences this morning were Noel and Warren (a bit too much Sat night cheers fellas?). Once we had done a quick stock take of snakes we decided to head out to the 2nd railway crossing at Boyne, although we stopped at the roadhouse for even more snakes just in case…
The clouds lightened up and apart from the headwind outbound the ride was excellent, and even a little chilly at times. But we knew that headwind would become a most welcome tailwind for the return journey...didn’t we….that’s what happens isn’t it…usually? Nope, not this time anyway. Shortly after turning around for home the wind started to buffet us from the north east and never let up all the way back to Happy Rock. Bugger! L
Dave did amazingly well for his first 100 with no signs of weakening, although its great the way he can pull out a flat tyre on demand just for a longer rest at the roadhouse J And Joan gave us a lesson in keeping a smooth pace out the front, but a master-class in drafting (I think she was just making the most of that big square fleuro thing in front of her).

However, approaching the last hill before Red Rover we were surprisingly attacked by the paparazzi, getting some secret pics of us in action! Woody (Mr Gu) saw this as his cue to leap ahead of the peloton, leaving the rest of us to slowly crawl up the rise. A cunning plan catching us at our weakest moment with over 90kms under our belts.
Once again another most enjoyable ride with great company, so who’s up for next week? J
Cheers,
Jake

Rider Profile - Warren Pyne
What bike do you ride?
Started life as a Norco hybrid flat bar but has since been modified with a shorter stem and road handle bars. So its a bit different.
What would be your dream bike?
What can I say Matt? Trek Madone!! A nice red one.
What's your day job?
Planner / Co-ordinator
What's your favourite ride?
Early mornings up the Boyne Valley out to the second rail crossing. Haven't done it in ages.
Most memorable biking experience?
Every ride is memorable. The mix of people, conditions and personal ability all add up to make every ride different. This blog site is proof of that.
Least memorable biking experience?
First bunch ride which ended up with me in hospital. But that's a long story.
Bike rider you admire the most?
Jens Voigt. Comes across in interviews as really enjoying the part he plays for team CSC. "Getting paid to hurt other riders." A man of outstanding ability.

The Obsession
Some girls have an obsession with shoes. Some girls have an obsession with clothes. Me, I have an obsession - some would say - with cycling jerseys.
As promised Popey, here is my collection. In total there are 26 different jerseys in my wardrobe. Enough to train for an entire month without wearing the same jersey twice! Including duplicate jerseys, the total is over 30.
My favourites are the pink ones (obviously), but some pink jerseys are favoured more than others. Highest ranked at the moment would be the newly acquired Trek wsd jersey. That's why Bec (Bic) has such excellant taste.
There are a few old school jerseys in the collection aswell, including a CQU jersey from my university days.
The collection would total 27, but dare I say it - the Avanti jersey my sister bought me a few years ago was banished from existence!!
Saturday Ride - 18th October
As the bunch rolled out towards Yarwun, a single light could be seen in the distance behind us. Could it be a rider working on his time trialling abilities? A rider who had suffered a mechanical or a flat before the ride? No, it was just Micky Yong with a dodgy wake up alarm. Micky - set your alarm 5 minutes earlier. That way you may actually make the start for one ride this summer.
The hitters bunch collected a few more recruits today, having a slightly larger bunch then the bunters. 9 in comparison to 7. Thomas made an appearance having returned after a few weeks of socialising. I think Thomas may have been doing a bit of secret training as he smashed the River Ranch hills as well as Cockatoo Drive.
I'm not sure what Scotty was thinking going into the River Ranch hills in his big chain ring? To add to this, Scotty then decided to take on Coin Slot in the Maccas kick. Scotty - what planet were you riding on this morning?
Maree, I'm afraid to tell you this - but when you're on the back of the tandem and you've got a big engine sitting in front of you, you kind of have to do the hills!!!
Oh, and Jake, how was that marinated chicken??
Good laughs for everyone today.

Lance's Custom Bike
If you want a nice bike - here it is. This is Lance's custom Trek Madone. This is a 58cm Pro Fit Madone and has apparently been nicknamed the "Big Apple Madone". A fitting nickname given that Lance resides across from Central Park in New York City and was once quoted after a race saying 'how do you like them apples'.
Fans of Shimano (including me) are pleased to see the bike is running with 2009 Shimano Dura-Ace.
Other custom features include Lance's bike shop name on the seat tube - Mellow Johnny's. Nice.
Thursday Ride - 16th October
One way of looking at the ride last nite is like this. One pink rose amongst a BIG bunch of thorns!! Sorry guys - I was feeling a little out numbered last nite.
We had the biggest bunch on any ride thus far this year. There was definately over 20 riders, possibly over 23, it was a little hard to tell. It also meant only having to do 2 rotations at the front and endless conversation in between.
With such a large pack, with a few inexperienced riders, the name of the game was staying upright and out of trouble. There were a few close calls and Matty ended up in the dirt at one stage. He did however show excellent bike skills by bunny-hopping back onto the road.
Fabio took out the bunch sprint after a serious lead out effort from Matty.
Did anyone notice Warren's new front wheel? He was pretty chuffed about it and surprised no-one had noticed it!

Around The Bay In A Day
Mick and Kat have started their trip to Melbourne to participate in this years Around the Bay in A Day which is on Sunday 19th October.
Riders can participate in either a 50km, 80km, 100km, 210km or 250km ride. I believe Mick and Kat are doing the 210k ride.
This is Australia's largest mass participation bike ride and commenced in 1992. The Smith Family are the events Charity Partner and funds of just under $500,000 have been raised as a result of the event.
It's anticipated that there will be well over 14,000 riders participating this year.
Have a great time guys. I'm sure there will be lot's of stories to tell.

Wednesday Nite Ride
Last nite was the second last of the J Hickey circuits for the Wedneday nite rides. Yes Marty - I can hear you cheering from the Farm already.
From 29th October we will be heading back out around the block for the Wednesday session. The pace will remain off though for a few weeks to allow new riders to join in.
8 riders left the start and we collected Woody along the way. I'm not sure what to make of Fabio's upperbody outfit though... it was kind of a bit skin tight?? Must be a Fabio thing.
Bloomers rode extremely well through some tough sections, particularly Redrover. Bloomers - you've been hanging around Micky Yong to much as the heavy breathing was getting a bit scarey!
It was much better riding conditions in comparison to recent times, but it didn't stop the bunch from splintering around the J Hickey circuits. For a medium paced (yeah right) session, it was pretty tough. Marty was spitting out riders like peanut shells.

Pink Ribbon Ride - Thursday 23rd October
Most of you would be aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. To show our support, I'm encouraging everyone to wear something pink next Thursday nite (23rd October) on the ride. I'm also asking people to bring a few dollars (even $2 would be fine), so that we can make a collection and donate to the Awareness Foundation.
I think it's a great cause and the pink will add a bit of atmosphere to the ride. If you can't make the ride but want to donate, please see Matty at the shop.
PS - if anyone would like a pink jersey for the nite... I have a few spare ones!!!
Herald Sun Tour
Michael England is currently racing in his biggest Tour to date, the Herald Sun Tour. After 2 road stages and the opening criterium, Mick is 24th on GC. He is currently the highest placed Budget Forklifts rider. This is an OUTSTANDING performance so far.
The quality of riders in the field include the likes of Matt Wilson (2008 National Road Champion), Stuart O'Grady - no explanation needed and Baden Cooke - Green Jersey wearer of the Tour de France.
Rocky boys Cameron Jennings and Glen Chadwick are also in the field and placing strongly.
Full results are on http://www.cyclingnews.com.au/ or http://www.heraldsuntour.com.au/

Tuesday - 14th October

The sun is beginning to rise earlier every day now, making life easier for the 5am Tuesday morning starts. I love it. The earlier the sun rises, the bigger the bunch rides get. Today we had 12 - plus 2 pick ups along the way.
Today we welcomed back a few old faces to the pack - Steve K, Joan and Jordie. Its great to see you all return. Steve, it appears that in your absence your bike cleaning skills haven't improved.
The paceline along Hanson Road was firm with only a bunch of 6 remaining after the Stickmakers roundabout. A car interruption at the GPA roundabout threw the remaining riders off momentum.
Today's star performer award go's to Kat. After attacks along Cockatoo Drive and a quick descent back onto the main road there were only four riders remaining - and Kat was one of them. Kat with that performance you should be proud. You are the star rider for today - (that's your star in the corner!!!)

Saturday Ride - 11th October
One thing I have learnt is that the sport of cycling is all about suffering. When you start riding, you suffer to hang onto the back of the pack. As you get stronger, you suffer when pulling turns during pacelining. Then, when you are a hitter you suffer when there are only a few of you left and someone jumps for the kick. When I watch the pros race, even they suffer to. In a race, generally its the rider who can suffer the most that will get the win.
Everyone has a turn at suffering. Today was mine.
With the rain hanging around until the early hours of the morning, the numbers were down for this morning's ride. As expected. Despite the wet roads and the "rooster tail", we headed off. The M n M boys (Marty and Matt) took us off from the start, and the success from last weekend was still showing. The pace was on.
The split at Yarwun was pretty even with 5 doing the hitters and 4 doing the bunters. Just about the only thing I can recall from the hitters ride was Marty's cheerful disposition. There's nothing worse when you're in the box and the strongest rider in the bunch just wants to 'have-a-chat' for 80ks.
Mick 'Muel' incurred a flat within 5k from Maccas and with the smell of coffee in the air, he was left on his own to fend for himself.
Bec made a return to the Saturday morning bunch. Boy, that's a nice jersey you were wearing this morning 'Bic' - if I do say so myself. The rumour at Maccas was that the girls pulled STRONGER, LONGER, HARDER turns then the boys in the bunters pack. Way to go Kat and Bec.
Scotty doesn't have a problem with his masculinity and will be joining the pink-eteers soon. Isn't that right Scotty?

Farewell Karen
Its with sadness that we have this week farewelled one of our riders. Karen has relocated to Brisbane for work and she will be missed greatly in the bunch.
Karen has always been a source of inspiration with her willingness to give everything a go - from 6hr MTB races in pouring rain, half ironman's to 100+k bike rides. Karen's 'never-give-up' spirit and determination has always left me astounded.
Karen - good luck with your move to Brisbane... you will be missed in our bunch.

Thursday Nite - Hell Ride
Two words sum up last nites ride - CHARACTER BUILDING. Yep, it was pretty much the worst conditions we've had so far this year. Not only was it as windy as anything, but we had rain. The kind of rain that feels like someone is throwing frozen peas at you - really hard.
Despite the conditions, a good crew turned out for the adventure. Jacko (the tandem tow-a-along) was looking pretty ahh... spunky in his speed racer outfit. Marty, decided to dress in a much less spectacular outfit - his new yellow jersey from MM. Nice.
On completion of the first lap, the pack suddenly disbanded and only 8 riders solidered on for the second lap. I must admit that the second lap wasn't as bad as the first.... I think the frozen peas had thawed out by then.
The only new rider, Ben picked a really great nite to ride in the pack and Noel is still having problems arriving at the start on time.

Editors Return
Blog updates are now back up and running following the Editor's return from a few days of galavanting around Sydney - did I mention the NRL final to anyone???
So watch out in the pack.... the Editor is always looking....even when eating jelly beans.

MM Final Results
Most of you are probably aware by now that Marty took out the overall Yellow Jersey in his division. Well done Marty. This was a result of strong performances and wins in the Time Trial and Kremese.
Matty is pleased to have maintained his Ramp Sprint domination.
Andrew rode strongly over the entire weekend as did Woody.

UCI Release for Lance
Lance has been given the all clear from the UCI to race the Tour Down Under despite not satisfying the 6 month doping test requirement.
The UCI requirement is that riders returning to the sport must provide a sample to be tested 6 months before they start racing UCI events. The Tour Down Under was less than 2 weeks short of the 6 month time frame.
Way to go UCI for allowing Lance to come to Oz.

The Toot Toot Ride (Saturday)
I think for the first time this year, the hitters ride had more riders than the bunters - wahoo!!! With the big boys being away at Maryborough, many riders saw the opportunity to have a crack at the hitters ride with the pacing being off (just slightly). Kat, Graham and Pommy Ian came for the ride. Your willingness to step out of the comfort zone is impressive.
The hitters pulled the flaty clause along Kirkwood road when Graham punctured (probably much to Grazza's relief).
The bunters collected a few additional riders along the way. Noel was explaining at the coffee shop why he was late .... and ah, lets just say that its probably one story that's best not posted on the blog. As Kat said: How about those Broncos? Noel, you just keep doing that TT practice.
A noticed absentee was Pyney???? Very strange for Pyney to miss a Saturday ride.
Enjoy the Sundy Hundy for those who are riding.

MM Update
The boys are doing us proud.
The Ramp Sprint - Matty succesfully defended his crown. Winning his 8th ramp title (also claiming fastest time of the nite). Woody placed second in his division.
The Time Trial - Marty took out first place. Tell me Marty, were you the only one with an aero helmet???? Woody and Whiffo both suffered and Matty DNF, although still picked up one point.
The Road Race - Marty claimed second place in a break with another rider. Marty now holds the yellow jersey on the road coming into the final day of racing. Matty claimed third place. Woody is also in third spot on GC in his division. Apparently Eric was found lying under the ute after suffering through the road race. Reports are that they he is actually having a good time (go figure). Whiffo was also pleased with his RR efforts, although being dropped from the main bunch, he hung on longer than last year.
Today is the Kremese.

The Truth About Jelly Beans

I was just talking to some hard hittin vets and the word from down the Sunny coast is ; Jelly Beans are for women and children.
If you want to roll out strong with the big boys, you gotta go with SNAKES and plenty of em. Shovel them in ya gob 3 or 4 at a time. If you over fill, no worries, just clamp the old teeth down and chop off any tails or heads hanging out.
You'll be smashing so hard by then, the wind will wisk them away. With any luck they will fly back and stick to one of those wheel sucking bludgers sitting behind you.

Wednesday / Thursday Wrap Up
Wednesday nite was blustry conditions but a decent pack. The young guns (Fabio & Boris) were out in force arriving just before scheduled departure.
Jake is becoming a regular on all of the bunch rides - watch out for improvement. Also watch out for mysterious black objects on Kirkwood Road. It nearly threw one little kitty off her bike.
Thursday nite was not so blustry and an even better pack. 17 in total. All riders were in good spirits. The dogs are talking (or texing) that Mick Newall (not Muel), took out major points on the kick.
Hey Noel, the ride leaves at 5:30 from the back of the shop.
Now that i've got your attention - Mick (Sailor Boy), did well on the mountain bike again. Hanging onto the pack for the entire first lap.

Missing Persons
There was a rider missing from the bunch last nite.
We're not sure where you are and it's unusual that you miss a Thursday nite ride.... Fabio, if you are out there, turn up Saturday. Your blonde locks were missed last nite.

Tis Was The Nite Before Christmas.....
Well, not entirely. But for a few of our boys, it's the nite before Maryborough Masters. Matty, Marty, Andrew, Aaron and Eric are off to Maryborough tomorrow for a weekend of racing. Racing consists of the Ramp Sprint (150m), Time Trial, Kremese and Road Race.
The Ramp Sprint kicks off proceedings on Friday Nite.
Its only for the older generation (over 35's) - hence, the blog editor isn't attending. But, that means I get to keep you all updated over the weekend as the results come in.
Matty is defending his Ramp Sprint for the 8th time - same number as the legendary Lance if he competes in the Tour next year. The Tour De France that is.
Marty and Andrew are making return appearances whilst Woody and Eric are making debuts. Should be a great weekend.... but I think the accomodation may be a bit cosy!
GOOD LUCK BOYS!!!

Tour of Tassie
Mick England is currently racing the Tour of Tassie - and as we've come to expect, he's going quite well with a few top 15 finishes. He has a team mate who is higher on GC (general classification), so team tactics would have him working for his team mate to preserve the GC classification.
The Tour finishes on 5th October. Full results and a couple of pics of each stage are on www.cyclingnews.com.au

Tuesday Ride - 30th September
The last ride of the month was in less than favourable conditions. The fact that most of the riders were either tappering for this weekend or recovering from last weekend, didnt help either.
Scotty had a footpath stretching companion. Guys, its not really a good look to be laying all over the footpath at 5 in the morning with your legs in awkward positions. To the untrained eye, it may look a bit presumptious.
Scotty 2 joined the bunch for his first ride - welcome to the bunch John.
IJ also put in an appearance having returned from Grafton. The 3 'pink-eteers' also added some pinkness to the pack. Great colour co-ordination girls - we will eventually convert the pack!!
In general, the windy conditions took its toll, with the bunch splitting on all of the major kicks.

The Sundy Hundy Club

Had a good turn out for the Sundy ride, with Dave & Wexy waiting patiently by the side of the road for the rest of the bunch to turn up , then Brony ,Karen & Jake with Woody aka BOB sporting the latest Hi Vis design straight off the building site.
Got a phone call from Mick & Kat to say they were on there way and they would catch up to us on the Dawson highway, so after a few more minutes we set off with Dave leading us out which was handy as we used him for magpie bait up until the McD’s roundabout where he popped a spoke & disappointedly turned back for home, better luck next time mate.
The rest of the bunch set a cruisey tempo heading out toward the X-roads enjoying the crisp morning expecting Mick & Kat to join us at any moment until at Beecher it got the better of me and I phoned Mick. Amongst garbled communications it was agreed to meet at the X-roads and lo and behold who should be there waiting for us, Mick & Kat! Apparently combining in a fruitless pairs pursuit ending at the servo.
Onward & forward we headed toward the Boyne valley with everyone havin’ a good old natter to each other which was easy to do without having to worry about the traffic along the Calliope to Many Peaks road. Wexy, who was a bit seedy from watching the NRL the night before was the second one to DNF with back pain plaguing him. We arrived soon after at the first of the railway X-ings where we bid farewell to Mick & his good wife Kat as they turned back to head home early to tend to the kids. After saying hoo roo, the rest of the remaining bunch put in a fine effort to arrive at the second X-ing in no time.
After taking on some sustenance + H2O a pace line was formed in a flawed endeavor to catch Kat & Mick. After we realized catching the escapees wasn’t going to happen Jake took advantage of a photo opportunity at Futter Creek on the bridge to capture the memory of his maiden 100k ride. We found Kat at the X-Road servo DNF’d waiting for Mick to return with the sag wagon. The bunch remained together all the way back into Glady whist perfecting our pace line technique until the dreaded Thotets hill which to quote Woody “always gives you a bit of a tickle” only to regroup at the top and to say thanks for the ride and see ya next Sundy.
