WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH

Well so much for the big coffee shop ride. Yesterday I weighed in at 83kg so I set the alarm for 3.50 am. Was going to do a bit of eky. Rain changed my mind. So I waited for this big brew drinking bunch. Anyway to cut a long story short, it ended up to be only BSB and me. Thank God...we only rolled. The coffee was great by the way, and so was the raisin toast. Yum...
Got home, had a shower and the phone rings. Old Bush slasher rings. Wants to know where I am, as he is at Mackers waiting. So I jump in the car, hammer down to Mackers for my second brew for the day and it was only 7 am.
Dam tough life!

TUESDAY BREW RIDE
This Tuesday am ride is a little bit different.Whoever is interested ? We will pull into Mackers for a brew and chew the fat on the year. I'm not going into work untill 9 am....(couldn't be bothered). So even if you just want to take a shortcut or smash over Haddock Drive, invite a mate on a mountain bike if you want, just tell him or her to be at Mackers at about 7 am.
Zulu texted me this am. He was at the start of the sunny coast ride with 10 mins to go and there were already 30 riders waiting. I've been on that ride with Marty and loved every bit of it. The sights were easy on the eyes. Lucky I was with the Zulu who helped me fit in.
Then Lord Garmon signed in from Melbourne. He and Spy Kat were cruising up and down beach road looking for riders to smash. I think Mick is going to do the Famous Hell ride next week. (Give them heaps mate)
On a more serious note. If anyone comes back in January 2010 lighter then they left in 2009 they are blackbanned. (GREYHOUND, LORD GARMOND, GRASS SLASHER, SPY KAT, ZULU)Be very careful - the scales will be out.
I'm sitting here feeling a bit sad that there will be no more IJ. I do believe Ian will have a very good year in 2010. I hope he keeps me posted so I can blog him.
See everyone at 5 am Tuesday. Even if you just ride down to mackers at 7am.

JOHNNOS LAST RIDE
Not only is it the last Saturday ride for the year, but its Ian Johnston (IJ) last ride with us. So we need numbers to make it memorable for him.
I remember the first Saturday Ian turned up. It was about two years and 25kg later. He was on this old heap.(was it white) Anyway i think he broke a spoke and that was the end of him. Until the following week. And we smashed him again. Then he turned up again. And we smashed him again. This went on for weeks. Until he returned the favor. Not only did Ian draw the line in the sand on how to train, eat, hurt, rest, train, eat, hurt, rest. But he proved me wrong and let his legs do the talking.
I wish Ian and Alison the best in there new life in Brisbane.
Maybe You should do a Blog so we can follow You mate.

WHO'S THE BOSS

For the last few Saturdays there has been this angry dog with attitude waiting eagerly for us to ride past. Last Saturday he nearly took Wiff out. This time I was ready for the Mutt.
Just have to let everyone know that if they are riding out the Targinie Rd take a mate or a big stick, as this Mutt wont back down.
Sorry I didn't do the full ride. Fergy came in the shop Friday afternoon with a few coldys and I was paying the price for it the next day!!! Just as I was whinging to Thomas about how bad I was feeling after drinking two beers, he trumped me with "Mate I had about 32 beers yesterday".
Yes I know..... I'm as soft as a Wendy soft serve!
Big thanks to Zulu for taking the new boys around the block. I've never seen so many zip-ties in a helmet in my life!

THE WEDNESDAY STEADY RIDE
We will Rue The Day….
The wed nite ride was close to the old standard that built it's reputation. The King was fresh and that meant his "steady" or "medium" was actually a firm ride. Several hitouts left the bunch busted and strung out.
The interesting thing is, some hitouts were intentional and others just happened. With the likes of Ferg, Slasher, Mick,Ray and Chris taking turns it was never going to be a doddle.
Good efforts were made by Brad, Paul and Dom to maintain contact. Here is a free tip from the Zulu, When you are surrounded by hitters - the only work you should do is to just hang on.
The attendance was great, with enough riders to leave me wondering how many there was, which brings me to the comment - We will Rue the Day.
The ride had more Roos than I could tally. Probably somewhere between 10 and 20. It seems inevitable that the crash will come. There has already been a collision between a Roo and Fergs. Fortunatly, the Roo picked Ferg, who is built like a front rower and has a calm and even temperment.
So, be aware and think twice about bombing down the back of River Ranch or Haddock at full noise. This year it seems like the Magpies have taken 2nd place to the Roos. I would gladly take the magpie clacking at my ear over a kangaroo on my lap any day.

CRAZY F7 CANNONDALE SALE!!!
Well here it is...........the BEST SALE EVER!!!.........and it's just before Christmas. In 2009 these bikes were selling for $1200. I had a sale and sold 15 of them for $800 a bike. Well I had such a good response to that sale I've just ordered another 35 of them!!
BUT there's more.....they are selling for $600 a bike!
These bikes are just what you would need for the Sunday mountain bike ride as they are tough enough to handle the rough stuff.

The Dirty Rats Mountain Bike Squad
First of all there is a new time change. We had our first unofficial general meeting on top of Mount (Can't spell it!) ..the hill up behind the Botanical Gardens. Unofficial members present were Zulu, Chris, Ray, Noel and myself........there was no show of hands just a lot of sweat, which made us decide that 5.00 am. is the new starting time. We also delegated the "new boy" Ray, the sand groper as new track builder......thanks Ray. As you can see in the photo, Zulu is learning how to fix flatty's with three apprentices looking on. Chris arrived with a round front wheel this weekend after a fantastic "big off" last week which turned his front wheel into an egg!We are still looking for more unofficial mountain bike members....so don't be shy, just turn up on any old clunker....Did I say clunker?.......try googling "clunkers" and you may find out where the birth of mountain biking came from.........Did I say birth of mountain biking? I am eagerly awaiting my new Gary Fisher 29er hard tail. BIG WHEELS keep on rolling..Remember.......5.00 am.

Sunday Morning Bike Ride
BIKE RIDE SUNDAY MORNING Leaving from BUNNINGS to McD's 5:30am Clik on link below for the bike route taken and length. Social Ride; No BIKE SHOP kits to be worn please!
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Around-Gladstone
Hey all,
A small bunch turn out of eight riders or so rolled up for the around town ride leaving from Bunnings Car Park at 5.30 last Sunday setting off at a steady pace along Kirkwood road. We passed an attractive young female donning an M1 hat jogging along the side of the road near police creek with very toned calves. The bunch weaved their way through Billabong Estate into Glen Eden without incident then back into town along Benaraby road. We decided after last week when a few riders over shot the Coon street /Barney Street intersection that we would go passed the Yarralla Sports club instead. Auckland point lookout loop was conquered yet again last week with Stuart Aird claiming KOM up the hill. A gentle pace was then amped up after the descent from the lookout as everyone was hungry for coffee'. A quick roll around Spinnaker Park then straight to McD's for a well earned cappuccino.
The ride was enjoyed by all I think. Hope to see you all again this Sunday for another roll.

And Another One Bites The Dust
I don't know what happened as I had taken a short cut and the bunch was 100 metres behind me, but one thing for sure the old coal port round-about took another scalp! If it takes another scalp, we should start calling that round-about Hiawatha for the amount of scalps it has taken! This time it was poor old John, that I believe clipped Chrissy Anderson's back wheel. I don't know how you did it John, but I would have gone straight home and sooked. You reminded me of the knight in the Monty Python movie "The Life of Brian" with no arms and no legs yelling "come back and fight like a man".
Also welcome back Big Lew from Rockhampton who I believe is here to stay. If anyone doesn't know Lew he'll be the bloke wearing the pink Tucker's cycling kit, and only knows one speed......fast!!!
PS....Just remembered...IJ is the only rider that has laid it down on Hiawatha without any riders around him. Must have been a ghost out there IJ?!!
