Rumors are being spread by the members of the M1 tribe that one of our hardcore hitter tribesman has started - dare I say it on the blog - RUNNING...
The legend continues that the tribesman has started with just a 4 minute run increasing by 1 minute every week. This may sound like a small run, but according to the legend, this is how the Zulu's train. Running at 4 min / mile pace until they can no longer hold that speed. No wonder this tribesman had sore legs on the Wednesday hitout.
From now on, this rider shall be known as - Zulu.

State Criterium & Tour De Tablelands
Its a little late and most of you probably already know the results, but 2 of our riders - Thunder and IJ raced the State Criterium on the weekend.
Both had hard races and both finished in the top 10. IJ pulled off a 7th in Masters 2 in a tough field. Thunder's race in Masters 3 came in with a bunch kick, but Matty blew the kick in the finish and came across somewhere in the top 10.
One of our adopted riders - Warren Biggs - was the best placed, finishing 4th in Masters 5. Congrats Warren.
This weekend IJ and Thunder will head to the tropics for the Tour De Tablelands race in Cairns. Both will be in for another tuff few days at the office.
Good luck boys.

The Weet Bix Ride
It's called the Weet Bix Ride, but I really should have had an extra banana pancake before I left home for the Tuesday smash. From the start of the ride - It was on!!! Well, at least I thought so anyway!!
During the paceline we finally found a nickname for Johann - Greyhound. Not after the lightening fast, super lean racing dog you might be thinking of... but of the bus variety. Here was me, tucked in behind the big Greyhound Bus during the paceline. No wonder I just about made it to the end!
That brings us to Haddock.... Oh, how sweet it is to now have bitumen across the entire dirt section!! Doesn't make the climbing any easier - as BSB found out. What happened to you BSB?
Apparantely Grazza had new knicks on today??? Did anyone notice??? I did notice IJ's new Dixon kit though - nice.

Where Are They Now?
This picture of M1 riders was taken in February 2007 at Maccas. So where are they now:
Ian Johnston (IJ) - Now doing about 600k a week and has obviously dropped a huge amount of kg's in the process. Now racing for Dixon Homes.
Steve K (Special K) - Now on the Australian Triathalon Team (again) and recent winner of the Yaralla Sports Star of the week. Still riding the Bianchi.
Joan - Now the most mature female M1 roadie in the pack and one of the only few brave ones left still doing the block ride on a Saturday morning.
Peter Rassmussen (Rassey) - Now back doing the Tuesday morning bunch ride having recovered from a nasty broken collar bone about 12 months ago - biking accident of course!
Graham Seabrook (Grazza) - Now well on his way to being a hitter in the Tuesday bunch. Having completed a few half marathons since this picture, Grazza's also dropped a few kg!
Karen (K) - Now unfortunately living in Brisbane, but still an inspiration - Karen just completed another triathalon on the weekend and will be at Mt Perry for the MTB ride.
Michael Yong (Mickey Yong) - Mickey Who??????

What bike do you ride?
My roadie is a basic Trek 1.2 , Mountain bike is another Trek (of course!) Fuel EX8 duallie. Both in black so make a nice pair. Still trying to talk Hayley into having the EX8 hanging on the wall in the lounge so I've got something decent to look at when the T.V is on. What would be my dream bike? That would have to be a little green one I saw about 16 years ago ....just read on..

These days one with the same amount of skin as I left home with! Other than that, Saturday mornings, be it round the block mountain biking or pace-lining.
What's your most memorable biking experience?
What's your most memorable biking experience?
Man, so many where do I start? Well while in Israel staying on a kibbutz, a friendly Aussie asked me one night if I fancied going for a ride tomorrow? Sounded like a great idea bearing in mind we were half cut sitting in the pub!
The day that followed started with a 2 hour switch-back climb to the top of the Golan Heights (the highest mountains bordering the Israeli, Syrian and Lebanese borders). Then through some villages and onto further mountains. One village had a border put through it literally over-night in the past and families and loved ones were forever seperated depending on what side of the fence you were when it went up! The only communication the split families have now is to go to the 'Shouting Point' 100 yards apart either side of the fence and well, shout for each other. They say money is the route of all evil, sometimes I think it may be religion itself.
On a lighter note it was great achieving the first pace-line on a Tuesday after Christmas.
But THE most memorable was seeing my now wife (Hayley) riding a little green bike from her lodgings to the dining room on the kibbutz in Israel!
And then there's Noosa, the 'Real Ale Wobble', Hexagon Pools, London to Brighton etc etc

Not that I'm superstitious BUT one Halloween afternoon when I was thirteen, I was riding the local skate park to show off my new handle-bar stem (major bling!) I landed from some big air into 'the snakes head' , the stem proceeded to snap off leaving my face to take the impact of what was left sticking out of the head-set. The result was my mum not being able to look at me for a week (sorry mum). I now have 3 false teeth and a lumpy top lip! To think we didn't even wear helmets back then?! Lesson learned I suppose, perhaps!
Bike rider you admire the most?

ANY of the elite riders, be it mountain or road bikers. The strict regime they adhere to to get to where they are blows my mind. Also anybody who just rides a bike for the pure pleasure of riding.

Saturday Ride - 25th April
Approximately ten riders attended the 5am start at Hungry Jacks this week including four triathletes from Tannum Sands. The group were surprised to enjoy the company of Wazza who was stretching his legs for the first time in a long time. Upon reaching Yarwun the triathletes roared ahead, taking Wazza and Popey along with them. Popey was never to be seen again but Wazza was to be found waiting for the remaining group of four at the crossroads sometime later.
The pace was comfortable and the conversation enjoyable as the bunch continued around the block. The group of four consisting of Croz, Paul, and Murray the Yellow Wiggle were led home by Wazza and Pyney who should also be credited as the only rider to include Kirkwood Road and Cockatoo Drive before enjoying a well deserved coffee at McDonalds. Wazza attempted a lone breakaway from Penda roundabout but when he realised he was being tailed let the sprint go uncontested allowing the bumble bee to finish ahead of the chasing pack.
Upon arriving at McDonalds, no one from M1 was to be seen although the restaurant was overflowing with people no doubt after attending the dawn service. Where were the hitters this Saturday?
A small group of only 4 hitters turned up for the townie. Thomas was eventually convinced to have a Latte at Maccas however, upon arrival, the overflow of people out the Maccas door scared us all away.

This Boy Has Talent
Anyone who was watching WIN news this morning may have seen a short clip of a rather talented guy riding a trials bike.
If you go to YouTube and search for "Inspired Bicycles - Danny MacAskill April 2009" you'll find the full clip.
Definately worth watching and unbeliveably awesome.

Thursday Ride - 23rd April
A good turn out for the ride last nite - 13 in total. A welcome has to go out to a couple of Tannum Tri Boys who turned up for the float - Mark and Steve.
Discussion at the start of the ride revolved around the Tweed Tour or should that be the Mystery Tweed Tour. Details are supposed to be on the Cycling Queensland website today.
Farm Boy had a bit of luck on his side when he picked up a nail in the first 10k of the ride. Something about the nail banging on the frame having gone right through the tyre???? Not sure if my ears were hearing rite.
Now Thunder tell me. Does an "in the saddle sprint" count when there is daylight between your butt and the saddle????? Hmmm - I'm thinking not!

The Master In Action

Here it is, the King in full flight. Thunder has made the headlines on the Rocky Cycling website. His third place by only 1/1000th of a second (if that's how you say it) earned him a photo finish.
Obvioulsy he's pretty proud of his finishing performance and the boasting hasn't stopped since the photo was published. Worthy of a humble blog posting.
Tonites Ride - Haddock Drive
Ok. Let's get ready to try the Haddock thing again tonite. We have it on good authority - thanx to Lord Garmin - that Haddock will be rideable tonite. A roller is at work today and bitumen is going to be laid tomorrow - fingers crossed.
As usual, the ride will leave the back of the shop at 5:30pm. I suspect that the ride will go through the Marina and along RedRover before the Haddock Hurts begin.

The MTB Bug
For the past few Sundays, Thunder and I have been going off-road and escaping the wonderful traffic of Gladstone. Here's me in action! Such a happy camper!
This week we parked at the Rangers hut at the top of Kroombit tops - a much smarter option than the week before!! We rode along the escarpment walking track to the lookout and back via the road. A great 2hr ride with the track and road being in good condition.
A ride out to the Bomber is being organised for sometime in June. Details of the ride will be posted on the Blog.
Saturday Report
Saturday saw six riders complete the 5am round the block course. It was a cool start and riders had their winter outfits on in an attempt to brave the cold air.
The pace was (bunter) firm yet comfortable on the way out to the historical village. Five attempted the hill circuit and were rewarded with beautiful views of the mist lined trees below.
Sumo bonked on the way to the crossroads but was revived at the service station with copious amounts of sugar.
The group passed Special K heading to Calliope on the return leg and were all together leading up to the finishing straight. Pyney and Popey attempted leads out but the group was unaware of their intent and missed the opportunity. In the end Bloomers won the kick from Sumo and Scottie after a dispute regarding the finishing line was resolved.
Thanx to the Secret Scotsman for this report.

Sunday Ride
M1 riders were out and about all over the place yesterday. In the morning, Have-A-Chat, Pyney, Warren Biggs, Woody and Joan were spotted at the hills coming through Calliope.
Apparently the bunch would have been larger if others had remembered to set their alarms, hey SpyCat???

Weekend Racing - 18th April
This weekend saw the biggest squadron of M1 riders so far this year make the trip to Rocky for the Kremese. Conditions were hot and still - excellant for fast racing.
A grade - Johann, Farm Boy and Thunder raced hard as usual. Both Farm Boy and Johann pulled some strong turns through out the race, but it was Thunder who stole the show with a "down to the wire" finish in the kick. See the Rocky website for the sprint finish. In the end, Thunder got third. Average speed was over 40k/hr.
B grade - Woody aka Bob, Warren Biggs, Ekka, Ben and Lord Garmin had a big field in B grade. All rode well through out the race but were out smarted by some Rocky riders on the final lap. Our adopted rider Warren, pulled off the 2nd third for the M1 squad. Average speed was just under 40k/hr.
D grade - SpyCat and Have-A-Chat had the biggest field of the day in D grade. At the finish, SpyCat pulled off a 2nd place in another sprint finish. Thanx to the Clubs great timing devices, SpyCat's 2nd place nearly turned into a third!
A special mention has to go to Ben Whiffen for last weeks race. Ben raced with the D grade handicap, with his Dad Andrew completing the ride as escort.

The Wiggle Ride
Only 7 little M1 riders turned up for the Thursday nite "roll". 4 of us were on recovery from the Wednesday nite smash, 1 was on his way to work and 2 were just turning up for a float.
The Tugmaster lost his keys as we rolled out from the shop. When the bunch passed him at Hanson Rd, he gave us his best Wiggles impersoniation!!! It gave us a laugh. By the end of the first lap, the apprentice boys - Jordy & Brad - were complaining of sore hands and sore butts.... must come from lack of road riding boys???
And what is with that big hump across the road at Spinniker Park??? Its going to make for an interesting finish to the Tuesday paceline!!

Wednesday Nite Ride - 15th April
For some strange reason the number of riders at the start of the ride had increased significantly from previous weeks. Was it the proposed change in course to the "Mickey Muel" circuits??? Or was it the abscence of Farm Boy??? Hmm. What ever the reason, it was great to have 12 riders turn up.
Welcome to our newest addition to the pack - Allan. He's easy to pick - he's the American one on the Orbea. Summo and the Tugmaster left us at the Power Station for a townie. Next week boys - full bunch ride.
For our bunch, the ride was pretty uneventful until Fabbio's flat at Shillings lane. Thankfully the mosquito population were not out in force as Fab's tyre changing efforts were rather lengthy. It gave the bunch a good opportunity to have a few laughs and recover.
Oh - we went around the block due to Haddock being a bogged out disaster zone because of the rain and the rocks. Thanx to BSB for the late tex warning.
Hope the numbers stay up for next weeks Wednesday ride. It should be the first of many Haddock circuits. Is anyone else looking forward to that????

Tuesday Ride - 14th April
With the threat of rain looming in the skies once again this morning, the numbers were down - just a little.
The paceline was a relatively smooth affair, except for Grazza and his surgio act. Mind you, the performance came to an end rather abruptly with a stern word from The King. The Garmin Lord has forgotten me today so I have no techo data for this mornings paceline.
Special K was the only Haddock Hard-butt this morning. I'm wondering if you got bogged on the dirt section??? And I'm wondering how clean your bike is now Special K???
The girls were out in force along the Cockatoo hills, claiming a few "boy" scalps in our effort. Oh, to be that strong that we could have held them off until the Big Mac Kick. We'll work on that one SpyCat.

Rider Profile - Catriona Newell

1. What bike do you ride?
Um...it's a girls one...light blue with pink tape on the handle thingies....it's not very fancy but it's got a bit of carbon at the front where the wheel is....oh, and it's got a 'Trek' sticker on it, which apparently makes it better than average. It must be pretty good cos it's been punished hauling my butt around for the past year and it's still goin okay!
2. What would be your dream bike?
Perfect bike? Hmmm....one that makes my butt look smaller! Okay, wrong answer, I've just been told that my dream bike has alot of carbon and fancy bits with words like 'Trek', 'Madone', 'Durace' and 'American Classic' and it looks like the red one hanging up in the M1 Shop.....
3. What's your day job?
My fancy shmancy title is 'Events Coordinator' at the Gladstone PCYC, I juggle all the room bookings and organise the bars for dinners and functions, but I can pretty much be asked to help out anywhere if needed. I'm working towards my day job being a personal trainer....one day.
4. What's your favourite ride?
Mick! Sorry, he made me say it..... On a bike, I love any of the bunch rides when I feel good and go that little bit harder than I thought I'd be able too. Saturday Hitters is great, my goal is to be able to take turns the whole way AND do the River Ranch hills AND do Haddock Drive, Koowin and Cockatoo AND not be the last one standing in line for coffee at Maccas, all on a day when the bunch is feeling good! Okay, so it's a loooong term goal, but you gotta start somewhere, at the moment I'm just happy to be able to keep up with Mick so we can ride together. I just realised I used the words 'bike', 'ride' and 'love' in the same sentence....okay I give up, apparently I'm a 'roadie', but that's not to say I won't be out pounding the pavement once in awhile!
5. Most memorable biking experience?
I've only got a years worth of riding under my belt, but we did the 210km 'Around the Bay in a Day' in Melbourne, which was pretty cool (and painful towards the end). I'd recommend it to any roadie, we'll definitely be doing it again, especially if they do a pink jersey and hopefully we'll get on the 250km ride next time.
6. Least memorable biking experience?
Well there was this one ride I did, way back in the early days of my riding career (all those few months ago), when I bit off more than I could chew, only I didn't know it at the time and it wasn't my fault!.
It was a brisk Sunday morning and after completing my first abbreviated Saturday Hitters ride, I thought I give the Sundy Hundy a go. For whatever reason (probably Mick's fault) we were late (or so I was told), we sent Croz a text and said we'd catch them up near Maccas. We set off at a furious pace and in no time we were arriving at the Maccas roundabout, but to my dismay there was not bunch in sight. Apparently I wasn't pushing hard enough and I would have to try harder if we wanted to catch up. With my legs screaming at me and threatening mutany I hauled myself after Mick, who as I recall was complaining mildly about my lack of pace all the way. After an average of around 31 (which was really, really hard back then) and me firmly in the box, we had the Cross Roads in sight (a text from Croz said we'd meet them there). Suddenly Micks pace slowed and his demeanor changed from that of mildly frustrated and annoyed to very sheepish and apologetic and he asked me to promise not to hurt him.
He'd just realised that the bunch was behind us, I don't think I need to paint a picture of my reaction. Anyway, needless to say I was completely ruined for the rest of the ride and we (Mick and I) had to turn round at the 45km mark and head back. I only managed to limp back to the Cross Roads where my legs cracked the sads and refused to go on. Mick enjoyed his ride home to get the 'sag wagon' to come and pick me up.
You may be asking what about the incident with the Jag? Well it really wasn't that memorable, they're kind soft....I think they make them out of plastic now.....
7. Bike rider you admire the most?
On an international level I have limited knowledge of cyclists but I can't go past Lance for shear freakish ability, this site gives a great example of why he's so awsome (guys you may not appreciate it as much as the girls) http://www.treehugger.com/galleries/2008/12/our-favorite-guys-on-bikes.php
On a local level I admire the riders who share their passion and inspire and encourage others, or who do the amazing amount of k's, or who have smaller motors than others, but managed to ride just as hard, or the ones that encourage riders of all abilities to keep riding, or the riders that just keep turning up and trying their hardest no matter what the result. If you fit just a little into one of these catogories then I admire you. The one person I will mention by name is my husband Mick, who has the biggest heart of anyone I know.

Race Wrap Up - 11th April
This week was the first handicap of the year for Rocky Racing. 50k out and back along Ridgeland's road. Johann, Thunder, Woody, Lord Garmin and myself made the trip up. Handicaps make for hard racing on their own, but when they're mixed with flat roads and nasty cross winds, you know you're in for a tough tough day at the office.
We'll start from the beginning. Being a skirt, I was off 5mins with only one other rider. Yep. I knew I was in for a good day. Lord Garmin was at 9mins, Woody further back around 12 mins with Johann and Thunder on Chopping Block. That's what you get for being big guns boys.
By the turn around mark, the race had formed into 4 major swarms of riders. All desparately seeking to catch the bunch in front. In the end, Chopping block and Scratiches were within 200m of the bunch. Unfortunately, no M1 riders placed in the money, but all were pleased with their race. Johann pulled some major turns both on the way out and back. Definately gaining some major respect.
Full race details will be available on the Rocky website.

Saturday Bunch Ride - 11th April
There was another good turn out for the Saturday am ride. About 13 turned up for the around town circuit - I think. 6 was the definate number of roadies who made the trip around the block.
The paceline was slightly off - only an average of 37k/hr. Slow poke pace in comparison to Tuesdays! Grazza's flattie at the Spinniker park tear drop saw the "flattie clause" activated - no Haddock drive for Thunder.
At our arrival at Dawson Road, SpyCat and Whiffo started a new bunch - "The Dawson Disabled's". Our resident runner, SpyCat completed the "fun run" on Friday morning, and was subsequently unable to ride or walk properly on Saturday. Can someone tell me where the name "fun run" comes from?
Nice pigtails SpyCat!

The Good Friday Roll
I'm sure the sleep in was welcomed by the 11 riders who turned up for the Good Friday Roll. I know I enjoyed it.
Both Whiffo and BSB were swaping war wound stories before the start of the ride - but it was great to see them back on their bikes. Whiffo bought his son Ben along for his first bunch ride, and for a first timer, he went great guns. BSB had some new impressive Trek socks on show together with an interesting tail sign. A special welcome also to first timer Brad - M1's latest recruit.
When the bunch got rolling it was short cut city to Maccas. Summo thought the paceline was on and tried to get an early jump on the bunch. Thunder quickly rained on Summo's parade reminding him that it was a roll only!! All in good fun.
At Maccas it was coffee, toast, pastries and a few chocie sweets for all. The Good Friday Roll certianly turned out to be a great way to start the long weekend.

Belated Weekend Results
Woody, Karen and Pete raced a 6hr mountain bike race on Sunday at Kurwongbah. In tough, muddy conditions, Karen placed 6th, completing 7 laps of the course. Not sure how the boys faired.
Karen's determination is always worthy of a blog mention.

The Bunny Ride
There were a few vacant spots on last nites ride. Chris A - where were you????????? Did you get 3 o'clockitus??? It was pretty lonely at the back of the pack mate! Just 5 riders made an appearance for the Wednesday nite smash - Thunder, Martina, Warren, Ekka and Kittstar.
After getting busted across the way, I was lucky enough to have a personal time trial session with the time trial legend himself across the way - Martina, you are a legend. BSB - I was waiting at our secret rendeaveuz point on the ride, but you didn't show????
The boys were in for a smash coming into Calliope and it was on - avoiding a few bunnies on the way. With led legs it was time for me to say goodbye to the boys - enjoy the smashfest. Tough nite at the office for my little motor.

Haddock Heroes & Kirkwood Kowards
A special welcome back to the pack for Summo and Jake who have come out of semi-retirement in the past week. Both riders have made at least 3 rides in the past week. Good to see you back boys.
With a green light on Hanson Road, the bunch had a good start to the paceline. Johann and Thomas did a bit of dirt dancing at the dump turnoff, but fortunately both remained up right. Report from Lord Garmin was that Johann got the kick after an early break away attempt by Woody. Ave speed for techos was 39.06k/hr for the paceline.
The coin slot sprint turned into a bunch explosion as Woody and Johann both attempted yet another early breakaway. Thunder spoiled the show and bridged the gap to take the kick.
Lord Garmin now needs to earn some brownie points after leaving SpyCat to fix her own mechanical on Kirkwood.

Around The Bay - Advance Notice
Registrations open on Wednesday 8th April for this years Around The Bay ride. Last year, SpyCat and Lord Garmin completed the ride and SpyCat even managed to clean up a Jaguar. An early report is that Ekka will be doing the 250k ride this year.
For more details and registration go to www.aroundthebay.com.au. The event is being held on Sunday 18th October - so there's plenty of time to get your trip organised.
Thanx to Ekka for the early heads up.

Rider Profile - Rebecca Mahy

1. What bike do you ride?
A Trek WSD 2.3. It is an aluminium frame but has some carbon bits :-) and nice wheels
2. What would be your dream bike?
Any level Madone, Custom painted in hot Pink and black with Hot Pink Bar tape, a diva saddle and race wheels with pink tyres. Mmmmmmmmm 3. What's your day job?
Keeping the street of Gladstone safe, or at least I try to!
4. What's your favourite ride?
So many to choose from! I like Tuesday morning as I really know i am alive when I am chasing the bunch desparately trying to hang on and then it does not stop there as recently they have added Haddock drive to end and of course, I don't want to seem weak so I drag my butt up there too. I love the Saturday morning ride too but the bunters ride is a little slow for me now and the hitter is just that bit too fast, hmmmm just more training I think or I might have to start my own intermediate group, who's with me? But my favourite ride would have to be the Thursday morning (Police) ride, this is where I learnt to ride and love seeing new riders join in, tho we seem to have scared a few off of late as it has been down to the regulars for quite a few weeks.
5. Most memorable biking experience?
The day I got my first bike and rode it home! I will never forget it! I left Mattys shop and fell off at the corner (dam those clets) got back on and rode out to Glenlyon to the Philip Street roundabout and fell off again when i tried to stop. Went to take off and lost my chain, lucky Rodent (Mick N or Garmin Lord as he is better known) was about and helped me put it back on after having a good giggle about my trip so far. Finally got home after riding 10k and thought WOW I am a bike rider now. 10k was a big deal all those months ago (13mths) and now I think 30k is a little ride. How things change. Also i have to mention the time I made it up the Haddock road "Mountain" for the first time. I did not believe I was capable of riding up such a hill and proved myself (and a few others i think) wrong. Just goes to show that sometimes you do not know what you are capable off until you try!!!
6. Least memorable biking experience?
That would have to be the 13th September 2008, when i decided to take on a gutter and lost. That was one of the most scary things I have ever experienced, but you know the thing I was most upset about was the fact that my bike was in two peices. Needless to say I have never ridden up that hill again and steer well clear of gutters. You can not trust gutters, they just jump out from no where! The next most memorable one would be when Mick nearly got cleaned up by a crain on Hanson Road. It was not so much the incident but what followed that made it memorable! Enough said!
7. Bike rider you admire the most?
Anyone who has the courage to jump on a bike where you feet are clipped in and have only two thin tyres between you and the road, then ride out with the lunatics in cars, trucks, crains etc on the road! People like Lance Armstong, Robbie McEwan, and all those guys who complete races like Tour de france. Just being able to comlpete such a race is an achievement but being able to win a stage or the overall race is just amazing. With in our bunch I would say, Matty, Mick, Marty, Warren, Kate and Cat. If I could be half as good as these guys I would be happy. These guys are not only good but encourage new riders to better themselves by dropping hints now and then like "don't drop the wheel girl" and by giving you a push up a hill now and then or an encouraging word when you feel you just can not go any further. Training with these guys and girls makes me want to be a better rider.

Racing Wrap Up - 4th April
Another weekend of racing for the big boys of the M1 bunch. Farm Boy, IJ, Thunder, Johann and Fabbio all made the trip to Yeppoon to race the Browns Lane scratch race.
In A grade, M1 racing was well represented with Farm Boy, IJ, Thunder and Johann all racing hard. In the kick, Thunder cramped in the final few hundred metres and had to sit up - much to his disappointment. With IJ on his wheel, this eliminated IJ from the kick as well. Johann needs to watch that double white line and Farm Boy needs to get off the front for a bit!!!
In B grade, Fabbio got his first taste of road racing. From reports, Fabbio enjoyed it immensely and will be back for more. For his first race, Fab managed a fourth. It could have been better, but lack of experience saw him pull the trigger too early in the kick. More Thursday nite practice Fab.
Great job guys.

Weekend Wrap Up
Saturday morning was another wet ride experience. The bunch rolling out around the block still had good numbers of 13. Not sure of the numbers on the town ride as no one else turned up at Maccas. Except Ekka who was a little late.
Thunder and I were caught in a terrific down pour whilst trying to do an effort along Hanson Road and the dump road. I thought for a moment we were in Brisbane. I should have known it would pour when I wore my race shoes.
Scottie got in some salute practice when he rolled into maccas. Surprisngly enough no one did Haddock drive but a few still did River Ranch hills.

Thursday Nite Ride - 2nd April
Thursday night’s ride saw nine riders participate this week. The Trek representative was at the shop and much to Thunder’s dismay, all but two bikes on the ride were from alternative manufacturers. Even if Noel had arrived on time it would have made no difference at all as instead of his trusted steed he had removed the cotton wool from his BH for the evening.
After a minutes silence in memory of Whiffo’s bicycle the group set off into the evening. The absence of Thunder meant the pace increased unabated and was arguably too fast for a Thursday.
BSB had selected a shorter ankle length version of the famed sock for his jaunt and in a colour closer to taupe than the chocolate elected by Fabio for his retro jersey.
Chappo was with the group only fleetingly before a puncture ended his evening and although Old School was sighted heading in the opposite direction to the group he was also not to be seen again. Woody was lapped twice by the group in the 90 minutes; both times he was at the side of the road taking a telephone call. Was it long distance love Woody?
The issue of drug use in the sport once again sadly came to the fore when Scottie surprisingly beat Fabio in the Spinaker Park Sprint. A DNA sample will be taken from the self proclaimed “Flying Scotsman” and compared with the tainted blood found in Eufemiano Fuentes apartment.

Thanx to the mystery M1 spy reporter for the posting. Your identity will remain secret.... this time.

Whiffo Update - Good News
The latest report on Whiffo is all good news. No fractured pelvis. Just a lot of bruising and gravel rash.
We are all pleased to hear that good news. Looks like the roo got the short end of the stick.

Wednesday Nite Ride - 1st April
I wish I could say that last nites ride was an April Fools day joke. Unlike the 25 dolphins at Barney Point, the ride wasn't a very funny affair.
We had our biggest fall in the pack last nite when we were pacelining across the Way. At about 50k/hr just after Turkey hill, the bunch ran over a dead kangaroo. Both Deano and Whiffo came down heavily. Deano was lucky to escape with just gravel rash and a broken bike. When I checked in with Whiffos wife last nite, it looks like he has a fractured pelvis. Whiffos bike is a little worse for wear as well.
Such is the sport we play. Needless to say, the bunch lost momentum after the fall and the riders made their own way home.
All riders in the M1 bunch wish you a speedy recovery Whiffo. Guess the numbers won't be increasing on a Wednesday nite Farm Boy.
