The Drunken Ride

Well this mornings Sunday ride was anthing BUT peaceful and quiet - as Sunday's should be!

Before the ride even started, a few of us had copped a spray from the local nite life walking home. We thought that would have been the end of it - how wrong we were!!

Along Harvey road the 5 of us encounted yet another batch of nite lifer's still making their way home. We thought for a moment that we were going to collect one of them on the way past or wear the bottle and its contents. Thankfully, we all made it past safely.

Did I just say safely??? We were riding safely after the last encounter until Sweeny Todd decided that he was going straight instead of left in Glen Eden and ran straight into Cannondale Cam. Sweeny Todd - you did EXTREMELY well to hold yourself up off the bitumen. I'm pretty sure SpyCat and I managed to wake up the entire neighbourhood with our girly screams!!!!

I think we were all pleased to make it to Maccas in one piece!!

Zulu V The Wild

Zulu = tough warrior.

However, surprisingly, our resident Zulu also enjoys his creature comforts. Embarking on a 200k round trip to Many Peaks and return with his trusty companion - Toto (that's another story!) - Zulu fronted up fully loaded with gas stove, cups, a water bottle full of milk and a stash of baked beans!! True story - it had to be seen to be believed.

Apparantely, a hot white coffee along the way to Many Peaks is worth carrying all of the extra gear and weight???

Well done to everyone who rode from Many Peaks back into town. All made it safely, with only the Silent Assassin scoring a flat during the 100k ride.

The bike Von Strudel donated for the event, was auctioned for $950 - with all funds going to the school chapilants.

The JJ Malaysian Ride

I'm pretty sure that it was a bit of a record number of riders last nite.... I counted 23???? A couple of new riders as well - Adam McFadzen on an old school Trek + Zulu's mate from the big smoke.

Before the bunch rolled out, Ben from the new Malaysian restaurant added a bit of incentive for the bunch kick at the end of the ride - Free dinner for the winner. Strangely enough, Von Strudel was all keen to get sprinting from the get go!!! I have no idea who actually got the kick - so the winner needs to come forth and claim their prize!! Make yourself known to Von Strudel at the shop.

Either the dog bark got lost in the big pack or Von Strudel was taking the kick seriously, as there was some long turns happening at the front of the pack. We pretty much had to take care of ourselves for the dog rollover!!

Ps - the Malaysian is actually pretty darn tasty... and Ben is super friendly. Von Strudel couldn't resist the temptation to sample some after the ride.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIDE

What can I say? Have your say.

If The Shoe Fits....

Von Strudel has just landed a huge range of Bontrager (Bo-ranger for the passionate) shoes at M1 Cycles.

I for one have jumped to the Bontrager shoe ship, and I'm well and truly converted. They are the most comfy pair of cycling shoes I've owned - no breaking in required here.

Check out www.bontrager.com/inform/shoes for the latest in designs or drop into M1 and see what Von Strudel's got on the floor.

Ps - there's also some pretty funky little Bontrager WSD MTB shoes in the shop aswell!!!

The Moving Forward Ride

Moving Forward - Isn't that the catch phrase of the month?? I don't know who said that too me during the ride last nite, but it stuck with me all nite. Thanx.

Slowly but surely, the smoothies are out numbering the furries - as you would expect of course. It was great to see a few old faces turn up last nite - welcome back Ekka (furry) and Fergo (smoothie).

I'm sure The Dom spent all of last nite reliving Sunday's C2B over and over and over. Every time I saw him, he was in the drops or down on the bars..... at the hammering pace of 28k/hr. Oh that reminds me - well done to everyone last nite - the pace was much more relaxed (and enjoyable).

Livestrong did get a warning blast from Mother Fairy Floss though..... just a little too fast Livestrong.

And yes Pyney, as you could tell - I didn't agree with the way Contador "obtained" the yellow jersey from Andy. Not that I'm biased towards Andy or anything like that... certainly not that I think he's a bit of a hottie or anything (blush blush)!!

I Didn't Win Today Because.....

Thanks to Tuggy for this suggestion.

I'll get the ball rolling - or should that be the wheels spinning???

Today I didn't win because.... the servo didn't have enough cans of Red Bull.

Von Strudel.

C2B Results

Firstly and most importantly - a big thanx to Pyney, Ekka, BSB, Silent Assassin, Cam, Mrs Dom and Fossil who all helped out in some way today. With out you guys, we wouldn't have been able to have the C2B in the first place! Special thanx also to Croz who took the time to ride out and see us all off!

A grade (160k) - In a small bunch finish, Cameron "wormy" Jennings from Rocky took out line honours.

B grade - One of our adopted riders Ada claimed victory, with the Proclaimer storming home in a close 2nd place. Ben 10 and Bushy had victory in their sights in the last few k's of the race, but some hard work by the chasing bunch - especially Dark Horse - saw the boys caught with just 3k to go. Sounds just like Le Tour.

C and a half grade - Grainfed, who is looking extremely grainfed in the legs had the ride of the day (from my humble point of view!!) and claimed 2nd place at the finish. For a majority of this race, Tuggy, Grainfed and SpyCat lived at the front of the bunch. An unselfish act from Bloomers saw Tuggy get back into the race just before the range when he punctured and Bloomers donated his wheel. This is sounding even more like Le Tour.

D grade - Well, The Dom managed to find his way to Bilo in one go - no wrong turns today for Dom. Reports from Cam are that Dom went up the range in his big chain ring! His efforts landed him KOM. Another big chain ring effort - with a cadence of about 40 - by The Dom saw him on the front of the pack with 1k to go coming into the finish...... and yes, The Dom held them off and took out victory!!!! 20minutes after the finish, The Dom was still reliving the race with some Sprint training along Dawson Highway!!

An absolutely fantastic result for all M1 riders - the training and hard work has paid off for all!!!

The Story Land Ride

This mornings ride started off in the chilly cold with Von Strudel and Whiffo rolling us out at the start. By the time we had made it through the railyards, Von Strudel and Whiffo had been converted to Percy and The Fat Controller.

Percy - the little brother of Thomas (who has disappeared off the face of the M1 earth) who also pushes the same ENORMOUS gear and half wheels anyone next to him. As all mothers with boys know, Percy is actually Thomas' little brother :)
The Fat Controller - a rather umm... appropriate name for Von Strudel. Percy, this was the come back of the century.

Rapunzel was still having problems with the big ring and the bunch had problems finding its way to maccas along the dump road - surely no one was considering an extra lap????

Good luck to everyone racing tomorrow. In the words of some one famous - Don't drop that wheel. Stay safe and see you all in Bilo.

Ps - anyone racing Tuggy, watch out. Apparently he's feeling great... feeling great and gonna dish out some pain tomorrow!! Fantastic Tuggy - can't wait.

Sunday MTB Ride, 18th July

The two boys both have new goats, and are keen to show em off.

The Superbunch Ride

It appears to be the trend that the Thursday nite ride has once again become the favourite ride for many M1 riders. Last nite was no exception with another huge bunch turning up for the weekly procession around the marina.

Was it just me or was everyone extremely well behaved on the speeding side of things last nite??? Perhaps with Von Strudel stalking amongst the pack the hammerheads decided to keep the pace more reasonable???

For once I actually know who won the kick - The Dom was very proudly sprooking of his victory this morning. Apparently Sweeny Todd made a final bid for the victory during the last couple of hundred metres, only to be passed again by the Dom just before the line - perhaps you should have tried the head butting technique Sweeny!!

C2B Support Vehicles

If anyone is able to help out on Sunday as a support vehicle - please contact the Proclaimer or Von Strudel (aka Matty) at the shop asap.

Spares vehicles are still required for Cat 3 and Cat 4 is in need of a lead vehicle.

If you haven't done lead or follow car before, its a good way to be up close to the racing.

Tuesday and Thursday Recovery Rides

Just a note to everyone who rides on the Tuesday and Thursday night rides, these rides are a recovery ride for the stronger riders, or a learn-to-ride social ride for the newer riders. These are not hammer sessions. The rides are small chainring only.

If you wish to hammer on these rides, do not turn up.

Matty.

Useless Information

There has been some recent debate lately as to the GI factor of Baked Beans versus Weet Bix.

Thunder very adamently proclaimed that Baked Beans are LOW GI and have a far lower GI factor than the humble Weet Bix.

Well, thanks to Google. I'd like to set the record straight.

Baked Beans have a GI factor of 57, Weet Bix have a GI factor of 61. Hmmm, not a huge difference there.... also, to be a LOW GI food, the GI factor must be below 55.

Useless information??? Definately. www.glycemicindex.com

Belated Race Results

Tuggy put the guilts on me this morning. Yes, I've been busy with real world responsibilities - hence the lack of blogging. Sorry guys!!!

Anyway, this weekend was the Yarwun handicap - and what a FANTASTIC day it was for all M1 riders!!!!

Its hard to know where to start with the results - everyone across all divisions raced brilliantly.

In F grade - The newest riding member of the Newell clan, Chloe, made her racing debut for the 10k event. I don't know who was prouder - Chloe for finishing or the Proclaimer and SpyCat???

In E grade - Rapunzel was a clear victor - by a country mile!!! Jordie had some bad luck with a puncture around the half way mark, but put in an awesome effort to mow down a few riders and finish 4th.

A, B, C, D grade combined - Somehow - perhaps with a little bribery???? - Bloomers had the handicap mark of the year. Too strong for what was left of his starting bunch, Bloomers took out victory with a two handed salute.

Sweeny Todd - in his first race - claimed 5th spot. A very good effort Stu.

Well done to everyone who turned up and had a race!!!

The BBQ Ride

If I can recall correctly, last nites ride was pretty evenly matched between the furries and the smoothies. Even if that is so, we still looked better. More bling!!

Darryl was very proudly displaying his new machine - a very lovely Orbea. I have to say Darryl that it appears that your new machine has made you ride about 5k's faster than the ol Fuji!!!

Someone on the ride - I won't mention names to save embarrassment !! - was very proud of the fact that they have been practicsing "snot blowing" - roadie style!!! Perhaps the remarks about Terese's Nana hankey on Sunday morning hit a nerve... whoops!!

Note for next weeks ride - eat before riding. Its no good being hungry and riding through the Marina and smelling everyone else's bbq dinner!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn it smelt good.
