We've received an email from Joan - who's now enjoying a well deserved rest in Rome, eating, drinking and being merry!!
Mother nature was on Joan's side for race day with blue skies and dry roads - apparently the few days before race day were not so pleasant, with very wet and very cold conditions. The water temp on race day was still a very nippy 14 degrees though!
Joan was pleased with her result and finished 7th in her age cat in a field of 19 starters. Well done to you Joan - enjoy the rest of your holiday!!

Brisbane to Gold Coast Ride
The Brisbane to Gold Coast ride is coming up shortly on 10th October. The early bird entries close tomorrow - 17th September.
A few riders from M1 have done this ride in the past and I believe a couple more have already booked their spots for this years event.
If you're keen, go to www.bq.org.au/b2gc100/
This year, they are also running a Logan to Gold Coast event, which is 60ks.

Full Weekend Racing Results
Thunder wasn't the only one to have a good day out racing in Maryborough on the weekend.
In the B grade crit, The Proclaimer's hard training and fitness came through with he and King Kunda spent around 15 - 20 minutes off the front of the pack. Unfortunately for the two boys, the bunch mowed them down with less than 4 laps to the finish.
In the A grade crit, Bushy rode extremely well for his first A grade crit - at least you'll know what a Prime is next time Bushy! Hanging in with the bunch for the entire race, Bushy only came off the back in the last lap with the sprinters wound it up for a super fast finish.
Unfortuntately, the M1 riders didn't fare so well in the handicap road race with Bushy puncturing before the finish, the Proclaimer's bunch not catching the front markers and SpyCat being run off into the dirt in the final kick. I guess thats racing - not all days are diamonds!!
Heading north, Dark Horse finished in 3rd place in the combined A, B and C grade race around Cawarall on Saturday.
Well done to everyone who raced. I'm pretty sure this weekend is the last race for the season in Rocky? And I think its the club championships at the Caves.

Tuesday Nite Ride
Well the Tuesday nite rides are slowly attracting more and more roadies - which is great to see.
The Bird Whisperer's statement that "Magpies don't swoop the bunch" was completely blown out of the water when the Route D Swooper snuck up and gave Bushy an ear bashing from behind as we turned onto Auckland Street - and he was at the front of the pack!!
Grainfed did a great job of barking over the boys last night - more of a scarey dog bark than the usual friendly roll over. But a good job none the less!
A new character joined the bunch last nite - Carl. I guess Carl is what you would call an "inspiration". At the end of March Carl embarked on a 100+ day solo adventure that involved cycling to the top of Cape York, canoeing across to PNG and THEN walking the Kakoda Track! Welcome to the bunch Carl.

Tuesday Ride - 14th September
The warmer weather this morning doubled the numbers on last weeks Tuesday ride.
I would have liked to say that the paceline was a little easier with double the numbers - but alas it was not - the pace was HOT!!! An average of 40.25k/hr for the 13k paceline - stats courtesy of LG.
Three riders take out the "Rider of the Day" award - Dave the Dentist, pulled turns all the way until just before the single lane on Hanson road the second time around (no flats today for DD), Sweeny Todd, pulled turns until after the bunch started heading towards Spinnaker Park - and then still had enough left at the end to have a dig at the kick!! And Bushy, smooth as silk and riding to the bunches ability.
Excellant paceline work everyone... it was definately one of the smoothest we've ever had!
Oh, congrats to Thunder who flexed his muscles on the weekend at the Crit in Maryborough and pulled off a second place behind Brisbane's Tony Wood. For his effort, Thunder picked up a sweet two hundy - not bad for 30 minutes of blocking.... I mean work!

The Half Dozen Ride
Um, now I know the rides on the weekend got drowned and it was raining yesterday morning - but what was everyones excuse this morning????? MMMMM I'm waiting!!!!
Only 6 of us got to experience the perfect conditions of this morning. Six of us soon became 4 in the paceline when the Dom and the Dentist both pulled flatties near the dump and on Hanson road. After the flatties, Thunder must have been in hell trying to draft behind the Kitty-Cat sandwich - I didn't really sorry for you Matty, you need a bit of a work out - oh, that's right, you're tapering for this weekend!
Well done to Paul (green Trek) who climbed Haddock Drive for the first time this morning. I dare say it won't be the last. Unfortunately, that hill has an attraction that just keeps us going back for some strange reason - it certainly has nothing to do with enjoyment.
See you all this arvo for the easy town float or the MTB ride - don't forget they roll out at 5:30pm from the back of the shop.

Spring Time
Ahh, the first day of spring... we should all be rejoicing in the warmer weather, the sun on our faces, the tailwinds up our butts, the return of the block rides... but what's that - awark awark awark... its also the first "official" day magpies are allowed to attack!!!
The Proclaimer must have been sneaking in some ekky k's today and has found that magpies are active at the Racecourse, Mercury Street and Port Curtis Way near the power station areas.
I'm sure there's going to be a lot more maggies reported over the coming weeks - yay, I can't wait!!
Oh, Matty's got some flags in stock if you want something to deter the maggies - if you don't want to go for the fashionable zip ties in your helmet look!!

Wednesday Nite Rides
In case you're wondering when the Wednesday nite rides will revert back to the old block hammer sessions, then I've got the answer - NOT YET!!
The King has spoken and overruled the people of M1 land on this occassion - I think he's still coming to terms with being out voted for the restart of the Saturday block rides!!!
The bunch will still be heading out to Haddock drive tonite and for the next few weeks - until the first Wednesday nite of October (the 6th to be exact).
So saddle up for tonites ride boys and see if you can manage more than one Haddock lap. Maybe we should offer an incentive for anyone who actually manages more than one lap - ideas anyone????
