The Movie Ride

It was a pretty decent turnout for this mornings recover ride - even Croz was there!! Croz, you just gotta keep turning up, we've been keeping the ride going just for you - you're the one who got it all started!

The Tandem Twosome even backed up for the double this morning. Zulu was lucky going up Kirkwood hill that he didn't drop the wheel in front... not quite sure how it could possibly be that JUST Zulu almost dropped the wheel, I thought tandems had two riders!!!!

The White Knight was very good a dishing out a bit of name calling to young Grainfed on his new Trek. In royal fashion, the White Knight has crowned Grainfed "The Platinum Potato".

Coming into the kick - which started along the dump road, thanx to PP - everyone was going for the first place in the line at Maccas. That was until the bunch rode straight into an RBT on the side of the road at Chanel!! That put the brakes on everyone.

Another great ride everyone - The company was fantastic. See you all (and those who will be back from Noosa) next Sunday.

Saturday Ride - 30th October

I don't think the ride could have been more perfect this morning - big bunch, great conditions... oh, hang on, yes it could - there's this squeak, in my bike. Kind of a whistlely annoying squeaky pesky sound that followed me ALL ride. Any ideas, please let me know!

For the second week in a row, new rider Ross aka "Rays Brother" has turned up for the bunch ride, Hitters style - not once has he missed a turn, dodged a hill or dropped off the back. I think everyone agrees that its great to have Rays Brother join the bunch - just hope he becomes a permanent fixture!!

Grainfed was also on the ride with his new bling machine - a 2011 Trek 5.5 with SRAM Force. Welcome to the BIG Trek family Grainfed and the ever growing Carbon Club.

At the top of Haddock the girls made a somewhat desperate attempt to escape off the front of the bunch in order, too um, get to maccas first ahead of the boys!! We thought we were home until on the top of Cockatoo where we were caught and demoralised by Bushy and The Vulcher. What was even worse was when we got to Maccas - Thunder was already there, having taking all of the short cuts to avoid the hills!!

Don't forget tomorrows ride is back to a 5:30am start - see you all there for an easy float to recover the legs from today.

Oh and before I forget, Pyney, you will need your "late note" for missing this mornings ride!!

Sunday Morning Speed Circuit Training CANCELLED!

Just letting everyone know that the sunday morning speed sessions are now cancelled due to safety reasons with traffic in that time slot. Having just spoken to someone from QR, the circuit is unsafe because of train drivers starting and finishing at different times.

If we are floating around at 40km/h, and hitting them corners at speed, im sure that we will come off second best.

So it is back to bunnings carpark at 5.30am every sunday morning. For those who do want to have a good hit out, there is the Tuesday morning paceline leaving Fordys Fish n Chip at 5am and the Saturday morning Hell Ride with the Hitters leaving from the racecourse at 4.45am. Sorry for the stuff around guys.

See you all out there!

Sunday Morning Rides

Most of you have probably received an email or tex about the additions to the Sunday Morning ride.

For those that haven't, there will be a speed work session at the Callemondah industrial estate starting at 5:30am. It will run for about 20 minutes + 2 laps and will allow enough time to get to Bunnies to start the Sunday float at the new time of 6:00am.

If you're legs are too hammered for the speed work, you're still welcome to come out and roll a few laps at your own pace and watch the action.

Get a hold of LG if you need more info.

The Yep Yep Ride

The only bad thing about not pulling turns on the paceline is having to call "in" or "yep" for 13ks. Thankfully though, someone always stops pulling turns before the 2nd lap of Hanson Road, so I get a chance to rest my voice!! Today it was BSB - Thanx Ken!! I'm not sure I take your comment about me being a yappy-flossy as a compliment or not White Knight!!

Ride of the morning has to go to the Mouse-inator. He never missed a turn all paceline and even got some words of encouragement from BSB as we headed out to Spinnaker. Actually BSB, I've never heard you yell that loud - eva!!

The new alternate route back along Hanson road worked well and kept us out of an awful lot of traffic.

Good luck to Dave the Dentist who is heading to Noosa as well this weekend. He too was having an easy ride in the "lounge chair" at the back of the paceline.

The "Scooby Snak" Recipe

According to Rapunzel (who has now lost all of her hair), homemade protein bars are known as "Scooby Snaks". Here's a simple recipe I've found, that I think is pretty tasty.

1 1/2 cups rolled oats
2 scoops chocolate whey protein powder
2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
1 cup skim powdered milk
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup water (I needed a little bit more)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 raisins or other dried fruit (I used Cranberries)

Basically, you mix all of the dry ingredients together. Mix all of the wet ingredients together and then combine the two. It makes a big sticky dough ball which you then press into a 20cm slice tray (make sure you line the tray with baking paper).

Put it in the fridge overnight or in the freezer for an hour if you're in a hurry. Cut into squares and stuff your back pockets for the Saturday morning smash sessions - just make sure you can get them out of your pockets to eat along the way!!

The Weekend That Was

Well the boys are putting the final coat on the shop floor, ready for tomorrow - it looks pretty good. A big thanx to Krystal Kranks and LG who have helped out tirelessly over the weekend.

Yesterdays ride was pretty awesome. Meow. 18 riders left the start + we picked up the Mouse-inator at Orica (don't ask what was the go there). Meow. It was discovered that the secret to Ben 10's extreme form is not genetic, its actually in the Superman Undies he wears under his knicks!!! Meow. Green Trek Paul went wayward on River Ranch hills and the M1 mobile service car had to be called in for a rescue. Meow. Welcome back to the bunch Lone Ranger who did the bunters ride - not sure if he'll be back next week?? Meow. Congrats to Cannondale Cam who turned right and survived the hitters ride. Meow.

Today. Just as awesome but not as fast - except for when Cannondale Cam was on the front. Whiffo managed to make it out of bed today for the ride - good to see you back Whiff. This bunch is slowly gaining in numbers, which is great to see. Oh, and it is official - the only reason why the King sprints near maccas is to be first in line for a brew!! Next weeks Bunnies ride will leave at the new time of 6:00am - those wanting to do a little bit of speed work before the ride are welcome to contact Thunder or LG for more details.

Congrats to IJ who pulled out a 2nd place in yesterdays Grafton to Inverell in Division 2. Bushy didn't fair so well and pulled out at the 160k mark due to some serious cramping - still a fantastic effort though for the length of time Bushy's been riding!!

Also, our thoughts are with Ashley Curtis at the moment who suffered a suspected heart attack in yesterdays race. We hope you're on the mend soon Ash.

Thursday Nite Ride - 21st October

Could it be true that BSB won the Thursday nite bunch kick???? Could it also be true that a black car with s-p-ys was stalking the bunch at the sprint finish to report on who got the win???

Oh, if you're not busy today, swing past the shop and see if you notice anything different. Also, if you're not busy around 4:45 this arvo, drop in (see if you notice anything different inside) and have a cold one with the M1 crew.

Don't forget the ride tomorrow morning - NO EXCUSES - leaving at 4:45am from Hungries!!! and Sunday morning 5:30am from Bunnies.

Three Blind Mice

Only 3 little lonesome mice turned up for last nights roadie ride..... One little mouse was missing a bit of bark after a "footpath" biking accident on Sunday - I guess that's what happens when roadies decide to ride on the bike path!!

I suspect there will be more mice on tonites smash around the block. Enjoy the wind guys!!

Tuesday Ride - 19th October

This morning definately has to be titled the Traffic Ride - the amount of cars on the road for the Tuesday ride is getting unbelievable.

Joan turned up for her first ride back on the bike since her world championship race - don't know where you disappeared to after Auckland hill though Joan???? Too much of a good holiday I think!!

The White Nite (happy now Sweeny??) and Dave the Dentist had the ride of the paceline this morning. From next week, the bunch is going to turn left after the Coin Slot sprint and head back down Hanson Road - the traffic on the Dump Road is getting a little hairy at that time of the morning.

Only three headed out to Haddock Drive, but all had their skirts on and didn't do the extention.... there must be secret spies up on Haddock.

The Tugmaster was spotted at Night Owl around 8am after the ride - unfortunately without a bike. Come back Tuggy - we miss you!!

Grafton to Inverell

Good luck to Bushy who has headed down to NSW to contest this years Grafton to Inverell.

A record number of riders have nominated for the 50th anniversary of the race. Good luck to you Bushy - I'm sure there will be plenty of stories to tell.

Weekend Riding

Saturday - Sometimes you think that when you've been riding for more than six years, you'd probably think that no more records could be broken, no new conditions experienced etc etc etc. Well after Saturday's ride, that theory was completely blown out of the water. The bunch - or what there was of it - set a new record low across the way - 19k/hr. It was horrid. It was windy, it was cold, the boys were nagging and whinging the whole way, the Dom was half wheeling and Pyney smashed me up River Ranch hills. The ride only got better when SpyCat, Pyney and I came straight into town and left the naggers to tackle Haddock on their own.

Sunday - Ahhhh, much better conditions - but bitterly cold, or am I just soft? I think 10 degrees along Kirkwood. A much bigger turn up for the Sunday float which was good to see. Its only a shame a few of those extra horses weren't there on Saturday!!!

Monday - who wears arm warmers and knee warmers in October? Come on Mother Nature - get you're act together!!!

M1 Transformers 2... Revenge of the Fallen

Again, after secretly sitting on FB at about 10.15 am this morning, I came accross these photos and made my little portrait of none other then Mr Rodent Newell. I must say, he is still rough around the edges, but nothing a little cut and polish wont fix ;) Well done Mick!

Now, I am sort of getting tired of having to stalk people online, for photos etc. So c'mon guys, send us in your photos.

Keep going guys, its awesome!

Thursday Nite Ride

Well the warmer weather is definately bringing out more riders for the Thursday nite float. We had a couple of new riders in the pack last nite - Rose (Chris Bakers wife) and Tiger (a visitor from Mackay). We also need to mention that Lisa (Bloomers Partner) is now also a resident M1 rider, having moved up permanently from the Sunny Coast!!

All up we had a bunch of around 20. The pace was easy going and the chatter just as good.

OH!! I almost forgot... at the Hanson Road lights on the 2nd lap the bunch saw a lone cyclist heading along Hanson Road. Now usually this rider turns the female heads as he is somewhat a bit of a biff boy, but last nite he turned the heads of every rider in the pack when we saw that he was wearing nothing but bib-n-brace!!! Fabio, I don't care how biff you are - that was NOT a good look!!!! And no Sweeny, we won't EVER be having a "Bib Only" bunch ride!!

Anyways, great ride everyone. Don't forget tomorrow morning at 4:45am from Hungries and 5:30am from Bunny's.

And if you're in the shop today... ask about Matty's "stolen" Madone...

Ubobo Breakfast Sunday The 17th

If anyone is interested in riding out to Ubobo on the 17th of this month for a charity breakfast, come into the shop or let the guys at M1 know so that we can organise a time ride out as a bunch. Will be a good event.

cheers guys.

M1 Transformers...

After sitting on facebook this morning I came accross something that really caught my eye. This is what Matty loves to see. People that come into the shop extremely overweight, with no confidence, no fitness, no nothing and then transforming themselves into lean mean cycling machines who can hold themselves in open races anywhere in the state.

So here is that photo that i found of... Wait for it. TUG MASTER!

Well done Jake. you are a winner!
Can everyone send in their before and after photos so we can show the world just how far everyone has come!

Day One - Maryborough Masters

Well the boys have been racing all day today, with the time trial this morning and the road race this afternoon.

Time trial results - In Masters 3, Dark Horse took out 2nd place behind the Sunshine Coasts "Grudge Holding" Patten. Zulu claimed third place in Masters 4????

Road race - Dark Horse was once again the bridesmaid in Masters 3 - again behind Patten. Zulu split the pack in Masters 4 in the final k's of the race and stayed away for the win. The Silent Assassin missed his opportunity to hang onto the back of Zulu for an easy ride home and came in with the bunch.

Out at Geelong for the womens road race, the crowds were bigger, the excitement was greater and the final laps spectacular. The Aussie girls worked hard through out the race, but just couldn't hang on when the big guns in the field came to the front in the last 3 laps. We got some fantastic shots at the start line of the womens field. Thunder even tried to get Judith Arndt's attention by screaming her name at the top of his voice!!! Mind you, he didn't get her attention but he did turn the heads of a few of the other girls!!!

If today is anything to go by, tomorrows men's race will be HUGE. We have to remember that we switch to daylight savings time tomorrow morning, so it will be an early start for us. The race heads off from Federation square at 10am. Its going to be tough to hold position in the crowd up against the barriers for the final lap, but I'm sure we'll do fine!!!

Under 23 World Road Race

Yes, I've been slack - or should I say Yes, I've been on holidays??? Either way, Thunder and I have finally found our way to Melbourne for the World Road Titles.

Before we get onto the world races, Zulu, Dark Horse and the Silent Assassin have headed to Maryborough for the Maryborough Masters event to fly the M1 flag. Good luck for the weekend boys - this year there is no Ramp Sprint, just two days of time trialing, kremesing and road racing.

Yesterday we headed out to Geelong for the Mens U23 road race. Besides the racing, there is plenty to keep the crowds entertained. The pier has been converted into "The Bike Shop" - with all the bike brands under the sun on display. There's also plenty of bling to buy and heaps of give aways.

As you would expect, there are big screens everywhere to keep the crowds up to date with the action. We have a viewing area at the last turn into the finishing straight. Keep an eye out for us today and tomorrow as there's a TV right next to the area!!!!

For those interested, the finishing straight is about 600m long and probably roughly the same gradient as the last part of Kirkwood road. Its a tough finish - even though the U23's made it look easier.

Today is the womens road race - heaps of good Aussie girls in the field. Shara Gillow and Ruth Corset are both Queensland girls. Ruth is the protected rider for the Aussie's in this race and has had some top 10 finishes in Europe this season. Ruth is a Pocket Rocket.

Can't wait to get out to the racing today!!! Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!!!!

M1 Cycles Training Rides

We know that the team at M1 havent really been in "riding spirit" in the last few weeks. Travels, weather and sickness have all slowed us down a little bit when it comes to turning up on our rides.

The weather looks all good for tomorrows block ride which will leave at 4.45am from the race course.

This sunday at a road ride will be at 5.30am, starting at bunnings carpark, and 8am at the phillip st choice petroleum the hairy legs get rolling out on the mountainbikes. I PROMISE that this ride will be spectacularly dirty! so turn up!

Come tuesday and the training rides will kick in again.

See you all out there!

UCI World Champs

As Geelong is raided by one of cyclings biggest events, and biggest names, Matty has had the chance to jump on the course and take a few pics.

This is the last 500m of the course. The kick will be uphill, and will sure to be a great experience from the sideline.
I am sure that there will be loads more stories (tall or true) when Matty gets back. Just hang in guys. Blog mistress will be back in action soon!
