The Handshake

Employee of the year for 2010 goes to young Issac (Jordy's mini-me). In 12 months the King has never seen (or busted) young Issac on his mobile phone during work hours!!!!

Well done Issac - M1 employee of the year!

Ps. If you can't tell, we're trying to pass the time until 3pm.

The Christmas Eve

Well its just before 2pm on Christmas eve at the shop and the boys have all blown head gaskets. According to the boys there's been way TOO many bikes to build in time for Santa to collect before tonites toy run!!!

The shop is closing up at 3pm today, so if Santa needs to pick up anything else, he'd better hurry up!!

The Tuggy Ride

Tuggy wants to know if anyone is riding tomorrow morning???

Um, not me Tuggy. Not because its Christmas day, but because the brew shop won't be open - I don't do Saturday's if there's no brew shop. Sorry Tuggy!!!

The Sprinter Newsflash

Two of the biggest sprinters in the pro peleton have just signed contracts with the 2011 RadioShack team after the recent failure of the Australian team Pegasus Racing. Both Robbie McEwen and Robbie Hunter will be riding Treks in the 2011 year!!!

A Merry M1 Christmas

Matty and the team at M1 Cycles would like to wish all the riders in M1 land a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A big thanx to everyone who has supported the shop over the past year. An extra special thanx to all those online shoppers who have bought Conni tyres on the net, you are the riders who have bought the most tubes from M1!!!!!

Stay safe over the coming week and enjoy the festivities.

Merry Christmas!
Matty, Kate, Brad & Jordy.

The Advertiser

Since returning from the US, Trek have been starting to make a bit of an advertising push - TV, newspaper, magazines, radio..... but that's not how we do it in Glad-vegas.

Matty uses an advertiser like no other - The Dazza!!!

Christmas Bargains

With Christmas being only 4 sleeps away, if you've got a little person that wants a bike for Christmas than get yourself down to the shop for these $100 bargains - these bikes are sure to be gone before Christmas eve, so get yourself into the shop with an easy hundy.

If you've got a bigger person who wants a bike, the two red bmx bikes are on sale for $200 each. Matty did give me the blurb about the specs - 3 piece cranks and a gyro is all I can remember!! Give him a call at the shop for more details.

Bo-Ranger Price Drop

Thanks to TREK america taking over the australian market, the prices on almost EVERYTHING has come down 10-30%.

This weeks price drop is the Bonnie RL and RXL AC's tyres.

For a set of RL training tyres your looking at $49 from $59.

The RXL All Compounds are now $69, thats $20 off thanks to Uncle Sam.

I am racing the RXL AC's on the track and I have to say they are the smoothest, fastest, and most reliable race tyres for the money.

DONE!

The Watermelon Ride Continued......

Morrrrrrrning! Geee my cheeks are somewhat tender !!! Extra bum cream this morning !!!

The Watermelon Ride

Our resident adventure enduro rider - Woody - is at it again. Last year Woody headed north on his pushy up to Cairns, this year, Woody's headed south to Brisbane. Today was Woody's 2nd day on the road and here's his story so far for those who didn't get his tex.......

"On my way to Brisbane ! Watermelon on a hot day... you little ripper... parked up outside a farmer's packing shed northside of Bundy.... they even lent me a knife to eat it with... Got me thinkin' "gee, there are still some good people in this world of ours"... how bloody hot was it yesterday.... 6 litres of water, 7 powerades, 3 cans of coke, 2 toasted sangas, 2 chocolate bars and an icy pole ... and that piece of "watermelon" mmmmm and one 243k sore arse!!! Life on the road. Cheers M1 riders".

The Split Pea Ride

For a few years now we've known them as Blue Thunder and The Tandem Terrors, but today for the first time in the bunch the Pea Pod riders turned into Split Peas! The Zulu's co-pilot (and better half!) Maree met up with the bunch at the Marina on her own bike!! I even got proof!! Well done Maree!!
It was a day of flats for the rest of us on the ride with myself, Mick and Fruit Loop all getting flats during the ride. Fruit Loops flat happened outside the Dept of Transport on Dawson Rd and the bunch actually pulled up - half of us in sprint gear! I think we should make a new bunch rule: If you get a flat within 500m of a designated sprint - especially when coffee is involved - the bunch should continue on and not wait!!!!! All those in favour......??

Good to see just about everyone - who recieved the memo - went to the effort of adding some festive spirit to the ride. I think Joan took out the prize for her effort of attaching a number of star decorations to her helmet!

And yes, my finger has blistered and is still sore :(

Sunday "Decoration" Ride

Do not forget that tomorrows Bunny's ride is a Christmas Decoration ride - You must bring your festive spirit and Christmas bling to join in the bunch ride that will leave at 5:30am!!!!

Rumor is that there will be a prize for the most impressively dressed bike / rider for the morning.... HoHoHoHo

Track Racing - Friday 17th December

Three M1 boys headed north to Rocky last nite for Track racing. It was an interesting nite, to say the least.

Having not seen nor rolled on a track for a couple of years now Thunder was some what apprehensive about racing (well, as apprehensive as the King gets about these things!!) at the start of the nite. The first race soon ended all of those fears - a 20 lap combined A/B scratch race. Unable to shake the King from his wheel - until the final two laps - the Big Boppa came home in a very credible 4th place. The King came across the line to claim an unexpected victory for the opening event.

That was it for the King. He retired for the nite whilst he was ahead!
The Big Boppa rode on (extremely well!!) and picked up a 2nd, 1st and another 2nd for the remaining races. In the final race of the nite, a combined A/B/C scratch race, the Big Boppa jumped from the pack at around the half way mark and completely destroyed the bunch once they decided to chase. There were riders all over the track. I think M1 is developing a very good track rider in the young Big Boppa..... watch this space.
Aussie Kev (or should that be TinTin??) racing in C grade has found a new lucky racing shirt and walked away with two wins (wink wink) for the nite.
Make sure you mark out Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of January for the Rocky Cup. Aussie Kev, the Big Boppa and Thunder will all be racing, flying the M1 flag.

The Return Of The King

Tonight is the first night that Matty (THUNDER) Jenkin will be returning to the velederome in years.
The TREK Track bikes are out and ready to go. Wish the king all the very best as he begins his crusade in the track scene again tonight, friday the 17th of december 2010.

DONE!

The Christmas Ride

There was a good turnout for last nites one lap ride to the Marina for the M1 Christmas sausage sizzle.
Hopefully everyone made it home safely after consuming all of those sausages and beverages.

This Sunday morning the bunch is having a "festive spirit" ride. To be on the Bunnings ride you MUST decorate your bike (and yourself) with Christmas bling - decorations are COMPULSORY for anyone wanting to ride in the bunch!!!!

In other news - Ben 10 was cleaned up on a roundabout in Tank street this morning. Ben 10 = Ok, just a couple of stitches. P1 Trek Madone = snapped in half. Woody also had a bingle with a JJ Richards truck this morning and his work truck is now a write off as well!!!

Ol' MacDonald

The only highlight - and trust me, it was the only one - from Saturdays ride around the block was when we pulled up at Calliope Cross roads and ran into Ol' MacDonald. Floyd was like a kid at the shopping mall wanting to get his photo taken with Santa.

Watch out for Pyney come Fanuary - I mean Febuary - he'll be doing the hitters ride. He and Ben 10 were the only ones to do the hills on Saturdays ride. Hard core.

Tuesday Ride - 14th November

Apparently Brownie and De Bruce have started there own Tuesday morning Boy Band called "New Kids On The Block". Sounds like a winner to me??? The boys have scored their nick name having been dominant (again!) in this mornings paceline smashfest. Boys, you have the King and all his horses talking big time!

The Big Boppa - he loves that name by the way - claimed the Coin Slot sprint having "flicked" the King and Bushy for the kick. Don't go into the shop today - there is some real trash talking happening.

The bunch went out over Heaven hill for the first time today - once again Brownie and De Bruce were flexing their power house muscles smoking the big guns to the top.

Has anyone see the Jeckyl?

Trek Ultimate Demo Day

Yesterday Kerry and the Trek Ultimate Demo Day trailer arrived safely in Gladstone - its a pretty impressive trailer I mite add.

Today the boys are already setup at the Tannum Tri on the Esplanade ready for you guys to head down and have a test ride of the 2011 Trek bikes.

All you need to take is your helmet, pedals and shoes and drivers licence (just to make sure you bring the bikes back!). The boys will be there until around 1pm this afternoon.

Don't worry about the rain, we should all be used to it by now!

The Christmas Rides

As we're now in the festive season, Rapunzel has put a request out to everyone in M1 land to join her and the Silent Assassin in the Christmas spirit by either dressing their bikes, bodies or anything else in "decorations" for the social rides (Sunday mornings and Thursday nites) from now until Christmas Eve. Let's just see what turns up!

Speaking of Thursday nite, next week (after the lecture from the King) the bunch will float to the marina (in full "decoration) for a mini M1 Christmas bbq / sausage sizzle. We'll supply the snags and softdrinks, you guys just turn up!!! Put the word out there in M1 land.

The Blog Names

Ahh, the thing I love most about our M1 bunch is nick names that people acquire (and can't get rid of!) once they start riding with the bunch. No matter who you are, no matter how good (or bad) you ride, sooner or later you're gonna get yourself a nickname for the blog.

Last nite Cam picked up his blog name for his infamous parade in a rather attractive blue lycra trisuit!!! Don't take it personally Cam, but I'm glad I didn't see it! From now until the end of time, you'll now be know as - Tri Smurf.
On other blog names, I think the Bad Nite Bear aka Zulu should be upgraded to Lotso. Bad Nite Bear is too much of a mouth full and Lotso is kind of in fashion thanks to Toy Story 3. What do you think?

The Trackie Ride

Last nite I think everyone in the bunch was grateful to make it home in one piece. For some reason the streets were full of cars and pedastrians (hey Pyney!!!) who were intent on running us down, side swiping us or just giving us a spray.

It all started at the first roundabout on Tank street, continued at the lights on Hanson Road and again going through the marina - it was just FULL ON!!! Good thing Pyney was with us to keep the pedastrians under control. You gotta watch them lot.

On a more lighter note, Brownie - Still got to get a blog name for you - was in full track stance mode at the Hanson Road lights on every lap. You're one of the best I've seen Rob - I wonder where you got those skills from???

Be warned, next week the King is going to be laying down the law to the people of M1 land who turn up for the Thursday nite FLOAT!!!!!!! It is a float guys, not a hammer session!!!

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

its simple, isn't it...

What would you expect to pay for a track bike that has industry leading technology, design and geometry?

A bike with FSA track cranks, Bontrager carbon forks and a Bontrager sealed bearing track wheelset?

These TREK T1 Track bikes come in at $999 recommended retail!

The choice is simple, isnt it? An entry level priced bike with the ride quality of something much more expensive.

You will probably see 2 of these bad boys riding the Rocky Cup on Wheels. For those competing, better start training a little harder right now, you are going to have some very tough races with Brad and Matty on these machines!

The Lolly World

On the way to Bundy, it was a trip down memory lane yesterday for the King. Parked in the long grass at Miriam Vale is Thunders Lolly World Truck.

We didn't need to ask him about it, the story was already blabbing out of Thunders mouth before we got anywhere near it. Before coming to town and opening M1 Cycles, Thunder was employed as the driver of the Lolly World Truck - a rather dangerous combination if you ask me - Thunder + a truck full of lollies!!!

It is rumoured that Thunder eventually left Lolly World having been caught eating all the profits!!! Just kidding!!

The Crit That Never Was

Despite the near perfect conditions in Gladstone, it was a different story in Bundy for the Hinkler criterium. Bundy had received a pretty decent amount of rain over the Saturday nite which left their new crit course, somewhat under water.

Not waiting for the inevitable cancellation of the racing, the M1 crew did what all good roadies do and headed straight to the coffee shop. There was some major carb and fat loading happening at the brew shop with nachos, burgers, wedges and smoothies being had by most. The Bad Nite Bear was just about beside himself with all the food being eaten but contained himself for a banana sanga in the car on the way home!!! He did eventually crack and got some peanut brittle at the "ice-cream" stop at miriam vale on the way back.

Even though the racing was cancelled it was a great road trip - plenty of laughs, plenty of cream puffs and plenty of red snakes. The Big Boppa even got a lesson about the Cobb and Co on the way back!!

The Sunday Float

Finally the bunch had some perfect conditions for riding. The sun was actually out, there was no wind and the riders were in great spirits.

It was a nice, enjoyable, easy paced ride with everyone sticking together until the end. No idea who got the kick at maccas??? Perhaps Dave the Dentist went for another early attack?

Adam Mac is getting more consistant, turning up again for the Sunday float (and going well over the lumps!). Narelle is enjoying her new ride and stuck with the bunch the whole way - well done Narelle!

The Hinkler Criterium

A bunch of the M1 boys and girls are heading south to Bundy's new crit course for the Hinkler Criterium this Sunday morning.

The Big Boppa, Thunder, LG, SpyCat, Bushy and The Bad Nite Bear are all throwing their hats in the ring for the graded crit races. Each of them will also have the chance to take out the fastest lap competition which is a separate event sometime during the day.

Everyones itching for one last hit out for 2010 which should make for great racing. Hopefully the skies will be blue and the track will be dry by Sunday!

The Big Banana

Whilst we're all going stir fry with the rainy weather that has been hanging around all week, Tuggy has been enjoying the beautiful Sunny conditions of Coffs Harbour. Just for proof, Tuggy sent through this picture of him enjoying a ride at the Big Banana.

Rub it in Tuggy. Rub it in.

Tis The Season Ride

Rapunzel and the Silent Assassin were in the festive season last nite on the Thursday float ride. Both were sporting matching santa hats!!
Unfortunately, the good spirit of the bunch didn't deter a motorist at the stickmakers roundabout who was being a bit of a dangerous Christmas Grinch!
Christmas also came early for Adam Mac who took his new Trek 4.7 out for the float.

Happy Belated Birthday

Oops. Don't you hate it when you forget something REALLY important????? Like birthdays....

The 1st of December was M1 Cycles 7th Birthday!!!! Who could have imagined that in 7 years Matty has created the M1 Cycles bunch that exists today. Happy Birthday M1 - sorry, but no cake for you!
