The Three Rocks Track

If you are ever out looking for Rays track in the Sunvalley area, just look out for these 3 rocks.
Its an awesome 2km track but if you cant find these 3 rocks, you wont find the track.

See you all out there!

M1s Muskstick Monster

Now that we have figured out Bloomers' secret diet, it's gonna be like hitting Superman with Kryptonite, take away Bloomers' musksticks, and we have the world!

Trek Package Deals

If your just after a bike to cruise to work on a few days a week, or take a ride through light trails on the weekend, then this is the bike for you.
Matty's gone crazy with this one guys and i cant see it lasting too long. So don't miss out!

The Cat and Mouse Ride

Early in the wee hours of this morning there were two M1 mice sneaking around the J Hickey / Hollywood circuit. On the first circuit the two mice were spotted by the "ever cheerful" Pink Cat.

From there on after, the two little mice spent the rest of the ride scampering around the circuits, looking over their shoulders and praying not to be caught by the stalking Pink Cat.....

The Almost Lonely Ride

Ok - there are a few of you out there in M1 land who have a little bit of explaining to do!! Last nite the smoothies were seriously out done by the furries. We only had 2 - Darryl and I.

Now, I do recall having obtained confirmation from Rapunzel on Sunday that she would be on the ride as there was no netball and also from Motorbike Rob early Tuesday lunch time. What happened guys??????

Darryl and I still had an enjoyable float around the Thursday circuit and we were extremely grateful that there was no blustry wind as there was no dog rollover!

There had better be some good explanations on Thursday nite!!!!!!!

The Nagging Bunch Wife Ride

There was a good turn out for this mornings Bunny's ride with a mixture of extremely fresh and extremely hammered legs in the pack. It would appear that Tuggy didn't race hard enough yesterday as the pace arched up as soon as Tuggy got a bit of wind on his chest. Mind you, Tuggy also had good company in the likes of Sweeny Todd, Dave the Dentist and the Dom.

SpyCat was the first "self-elected" female bunch PM and was constantly chasing down riders on the front who were getting a little carried away with the pace!! Good to see a woman take charge SpyCat!! Bushy was also in cattle dog mode on occasion - rounding up the odd stray rider.

Bushy just about had all the ekky riders in tears when he rode up the Kirkwood climb with no hands in the big ring. I couldn't watch you towards the end Bushy - you were destroying me!!

A very enjoyable Sunday ride.

Racing Results

With a few of the A graders away at state races down south, the numbers were down in Rocky which resulted in A and B grade being combined for yesterdays 88k scratch race at Cawarral.

M1 riders took the opportunity to flex their muscles across the racing in all grades. Bushy and the Proclaimer were aggressive from the get-go, but couldn't shake the ever persistant SpyCat and Tuggy who pulled the two break aways back in on numerous escapes.

In the end, Bushy claimed his first road race win for the season, with the Proclaimer taking out second. SpyCat came home in 7th place and Tuggy was unlucky to puncture at around the 70k mark.

In D grade, the Dominator recovered well from a dropped chain in the last few k's and took out his second victory for the year. I'm pretty sure the handicapper will be on to you now Dom and you'll be in C grade for the rest of the year!

Next weeks race is the handicap at Yarwun. Day licences should be available, but Proclaimer will confirm this during the week.

So, you all have mastered the drop, right? Well now, Coach Carter is showing you how to adjust the seat on the go before you hit them nasty sections.

Theres just one problem Chris, I run a 5mm allen key seat clamp.

But for all you furry legged creatures out there with QR post, try this out when your just chillen through the bush.

MTB Tips - Part 2

So you're flying through the bush with your hairy legs when you're suddenly faced with a terribly steep, gravel enriched drop off. What do you do?
A) Turn your bike around and head in the opposite direction (never admitting to anyone that you couldn't ride down the drop)
B) Get off your bike and scramble down the drop off (hoping that no one will see you) OR
C) Ride the drop like a pro and hope that EVERYONE sees you!!!

Of course you want to ride the drop like a pro! Well I personally don't - only because of the falling and breaking factor! - but in case you do.... go to Chris' website www.mtbtips.com and watch his latest video "How to Ride Drops".

You make it look so easy Chris!

Product Of The Week

This week is a cheapie but a goodie.

Matty's replaced all the bike floor stands in the shop, so not only do the bikes on the floor look great, but Matty's now got a stack of the old bike stands to off load.

If you want your bike to stay upright at home, then drop into the shop with $10 (if you want one) or $20 (if you want 4).

Mount Isa to the Northern Territory Border Run

I met up with Chris Carson, one of my best friends at the Table Lands tour. He also answers to the name of "King Kunda" or "Adnuk Fognik" or "The Croc Hunter".

Conversation started and we continued to blab on about one of our old training rides. He said they have a race now on the same track that we use to train on, called the Border Run.

But... Back in our day, we would ride the 200km down the road to Camooweal, knock over a carton and ride back, just in time to start work. Those were the days my friends.

Damn, I wonder if we can write a song with those words. Probably wouldnt sell anyway.

So.. If your tough enough or have nothing better to do on saturday, the 14th of August, head to the Isa and smash out some kms.

For more info, come in and see me, you may even get a few "old but true" stories.

The Goldylocks Ride

Before we left the shop the smoothies outnumbered the furries last nite by about 9 to 4. Well done smoothies.

On the first lap (in blustery conditions) the pace was either TOO HOT or TOO COLD. A few big motors had turned up on the ride and were arching up the pace - particularly in the tailwind sections!!

Luckily on the second lap we managed to ge the pace - JUST RIGHT for almost the entire lap.

On the third lap, Dominator jumped the bunch for the kick. Luckily Dom remembered that the gates to Spinnaker were closed. For some reason I was having visions of cleaning Dom off the gate grills in the dark!!!

Dogs are talking that Pyney will no longer be eligible to turn left with the bunters on the sometime block rides with all the ekky k's he is putting in! A pre-welcome to the hitters bunch Pyney!!

A very enjoyable ride for all. Next week, charge your lights SpyCat. Flat batteries are no excuse for an early leave pass!!!

Ray Of Sunshine

Tonights ride didnt start with as many riders as we would have liked. But what we lacked in numbers, we made with new talent. The ride brang along a 12 year old dynamo, Clayton. I will type on behalf of ALL the group and say that he really did surprise everyone. Although drying matty up all his water, Clayton put in a top effort and hung on all the way.

Silent Assassin lead the majority of the ride, and took us to his newly groomed track, "SUNSHINE". I will tell you all that Thunder did name the trail at the end of the ride after Raymond and that song that matty started singing. Dont worry guys, i will find out who sung the song.

Keep an eye out for a social day where first prize is a $1000 picture frame from Ken, and a $500 picture frame for second. Cheers for organising that matty!

All them furry leggged MTBers out there, lets beat the roadies next tuesday, see you there!

and a legend arises...

Every now and then we get a legend here at m1. This time its jordys turn to step up. Jordo is racing at the Maryborough Classic BMX carnival and will be held on saturday and sunday.

Currently placed 5th in CQ, I think hes got a fairly good chance to take this one out.

Everyone wish him the best of luck for the weekend.

Good luck jordy!

how to climb like a pro, Coach Carter style.

If anyone is having trouble on them long or difficult climbs, take a close look at this. I think coach just solved all my problems.

Thursday Nite Ride - 17th June

Having missed the start of the ride last nite, I decided to head in the reverse direction through the marina to catch up with the bunch. The bunch was actually pretty easy to spot last nite. Coming into the GPA roundabout, all I could see to the left was this looooooong string of AYUP lights heading towards Spinnaker Park. It looked impressive.

It was a super big bunch last nite, 20 riders in total. If Livestrong had of turned up - it would have been 21!! Next week Livestrong. With the large number of riders, the number of turns at the front was pretty minimal. I think I hit the wind about twice all nite - just the way I like it!!

Tuggy, LG, Grainfed and SpyCat disappeared on the second lap to go and do a few ekky J Hickey circuits - J Hickey's must be the reason you guys are getting so lean!!!

Any ideas on who won the kick on the third lap????

Oh, and a piece of advice for everyone. Never ride without socks.

TABLELANDS TOUR

This is a bike race that I'll allways be going back to while I can still ride a bike. How many have i done? Thinking about 11.

All the racing is held around Yungaburra. With two 70 plus km stages. A 5 km time trial. And a 96 km lumpy stage. might i say that i hate hills. With 50km to go I was ready to throw in the towel. 5 km out I was off the back watching the pack ride away. But somhow At 5 kms there was that slight smell of finish line in the air. About six other desperate riders that I sat on dragged me back to the pack. 600m out, the pack was pulling around 60 kmph. I tried to pull out and better my position but the pace was to hard. I waited for sprint to start and caught a wheel to better my position in the pack. the final result was messy, and as the picture shows i only got a second.

Mt Perry 2010 roundup

First things first. I would just like to notify
everyone that I, grainfed, have appointed myself
the role of m1 cycles blog MTB editor.

Last weekend was the first EVER big representation of M1 cycles riders at mt perry. Just goes to show that good, solid training, sweet advice and good nutrition can take anyone anywhere. With extremely good results from all our riders, i think everyone should be happy, considering what we were up against.

Saturday night had the boys fight it out in an 800m "dirt crit". Bushy took out 4th in elite mens, and grainfed came in 9th. Both events had 20 or so riders compete.

The night was cold and most people rugged up appropriately. I believe that ken and hayley left the rest of us at camp and took off to a cosy motel in gin gin. Luckily food was being served by the container full, I think Im right to say that we all consumed more then enough in hot chips, roast beef and spaghetti bolegnaise.

With a total ascent of 245 metres per lap, on an 11.5km course and hills that were absolute slogs, all the m1 riders who competed finished with their heads held high.

Bush Slasher took out a second with 10 laps in 16-29 years age group, I managed to pull an 8th with 8 laps (thanks to bushy who had a few motivational words to me on the fifth lap) in 16 to 29 age group. 30 to 44 division had Ken Ridden smash a 13th with 8 laps and Matty Ness came in 22nd with 7 laps.

Male pairs had Dark Horse and Silent Assassin pull a 5th with 11 laps, and our close friends Adrian and Bryce lohman got 11th with 10 laps.

With almost 300 riders on the weekend, the competition was stiff. Great job to all the guys for giving it a go, and thanks to everyone who came down and competed and helped out.

Next year its mine bushy :)

Rider Round-up

Bring out your trusty steeds because the Tuesday nite Round-up is on again in just a few short hours.

Its bound to be a few degrees warmer than this mornings ride - and probably a lot more enjoyable at the relaxed pace!!!

Will the Hairy Legged Mountain Men out number the Super Smooth Roadies for the second week in a row - I THINK NOT!!!!! C'mon roadies - Pyney and I need your support!!!!!

Both rides - mountain bike and road - are leaving from the back of the shop at 5:30pm sharp.....

Star Amongst Us

What more needs to be said about Chris Carter's creditantials???

By far the BIGGEST star in M1 land. Nice one Chris.

Canelands Classic

With no racing on in Rocky this weekend, HandiCat, Thunder, Dark Horse and the Proclaimer ventured down to Bundy for the 70k handicap race known as the Canelands Classic.

Somehow Dark Horse managed to snare a 3minute start in front of the Proclaimer and Thunder?????????? The boys were sure that Dark Horse had victory sealed up before the race kicked off. Alas, as it goes in racing - it wasn't to be with Dark Horse scoring a puncture in the race.

In the end, the scratchies got up and call all of the bunches in front. In the finish - which just happened to include the biggest berg of the race - our adopted Rocky rider Ada came in 7th and Proclaimer managed to land an 8th place for his efforts.

Good job boys.

The Fixie Ride

With the Canelands Classic on this afternoon, the numbers were down on this mornings ride. Thomas finally made an appearance after many months of non-existence in M1 land - apparently the fish weren't biting this morning.

Finally after many years of searching, I finally discovered a nickname for Chrissy A - other than Chrissy A. Floyd. Not Floyd Landis as Thunder first guessed, but Floyd as in Pink Floyd. Floyd's rather "in your face" jersey is one that he picked up from the States and its all about Pink Floyd.

The Dominator copped some major spraying in the paceline from the King for TOO MANY gear changes. At maccas it was decided that should the Dom ever upgrade to electronic Di2 he would need three battery packs per ride, just to cope with the gear changes.

Speaking of maccas, the Silent Assassin scored major Brownie points with the riders when he jumped in the right hand land at the roundabout and went straight in for a coffee - no Haddock and no Kirkwood. A true roadie Silent Assassin - you can ride with me anyday!!

Early reports from the Canelands Classic are that the scracthies caught all the riders, with super coach Wormy escaping off the front with another rider in the final few k's......

The Speed Date Ride

For some reason, Thursday nite rides seem to simulate what you would expect from a Speed Dating meeting. You know, where you get 2 minutes beside a rider before the dog barks and you roll onto the next rider. Where am I going with this?? I have no idea - but I blame Proclaimer. He started it!

Let's get onto the serious stuff - like the actual ride. Perfect conditions, Perfect bunch, Perfect Perfect Perfect. The bunch even convinced Peanut to single out along Blain drive past the dump. We were like sands through an hour glass, a 16 rider snake with sparkling red tail lights glistening in the nite, cruising along. I'm trying to say that the single file thing worked a treat. Much safer.

Good luck for tomorrow Pyney - hope its not too chilly around the block. Good luck also to everyone heading to Bundy for the Canelands Handicap. Bring back a scalp or two + the winners trophy.

The Legs

What do all the M1 roadies do when they're not training????
I'll tell you... hang out at M1 Cycles and compare leg muscles.
Any guesses who these pins belong too??? I can only wish that I could lay claim to a pair.

The Show Down Rides

Arriving at the back of the shop around 5:15pm, it was looking pretty dismal for the Roadies - we were severely out-numbered by the "hairy legged" mountain bike crew. By 5:25 the numbers had evened up with the Roadies even sticking their noses in front at one point.... but alas, at 5:28 the Zulu and Wazza turned up on their tractor tyred bikes. Final score - Roadies 8, Hairy Legs 10.

Pyney and I have sworn to embark on a recruitment drive during the week to ensure we have victory at next Tuesday nites showdown!!

As we all left the shop, the Hairy Legs led the way - the pace was sllllllooooooowwwwwww. That would explain why my average speed was down for the ride. I must admit, there was an awful lot of playful heckling going on for the first few hundred metres until the Hairy Legs final got off the road!

Wazza was having a few issues getting his feet out of the cleats on his first nite time MTB ride and ended up with a bit of a nasty bite on his leg from his front chain rings. Its also a good thing that the Dominator "knew" the tracks where they were riding. Just ask him.

The Roadies had a pretty smooth ride, although at times it did appear that we were getting faster and faster with every lap!! I promise to work on my Woof for next week guys - thanx for giving me a hand Tuggy... you do a much better barking job than I do!!

Thanks For The Ride

7 including me started, Sweeney Todd and Lauren joined us to Calliope, leaving myself, Rocksolid Raymondo, SpyCat, Grainfed & Cameron to complete the epic. The ride down was a little chilly as the fog only cleared up once reaching Ubobo shop & Grainfed returned to a lighter shad of purple coz of the lack of any arm warmers or gloves (who then proceeded to enjoy an ice-cream!!!!!!!

Refuelled for the return we met Bushy near Dawson on his way down for a solo trip. At this point Grainfed was set to ride back to Ubobo to squeeze in another 100k's but soon changed his mind to catch us back up at Calliope cross roads only due to the fact that he had no water left.

Now with some 130 odd kms' on the clock SpyCat suggest we should "do Haddock on the way back" (only because its 6ks shorter to home). The look on Cam's face was priceless. However we all managed it. Round trip turned out to be 155k's for me, I think some of the others had more.

It was a great ride with great company.
Cheers BSB.

Tuesday Nite Riding

Get your booties on and your lights charged cause tonite is going to see the first of the Tuesday Nite rides swing in to action.

The MTB riders will head off to the bush around One-Tree hill whilst the roadies will cut a couple of Thursday nite laps.... perhaps even with a sprint on the last lap???? Both rides are going to be at an easy relaxed pace.

Both rides are leaving from the back of the shop at 5:30pm Polar time. See you there.
