The Classics

M1 Cycles have the popular American Classic wheels in stock, and we are doing them for unreal prices.

The American Classic 420 aero wheels were the fastest, most demanded alloy aero wheels for under $1000. Now, they have raised that bar even more, being the fastest, most reliable and most affordable wheelset on the market. You can now gear up a set of PINK or RED/WHITE American Classic wheels for $849, or pick them up in BLACK for $100 less. BARGAIN.

If your not convinced yet on how fast these 420 wheels are, just ask anyone that has a set.

Hold it, there is one more thing that you all have to know... The American Classic Sprint 350 is (do not quote me on this one) the lightest set of alloy wheels on the market. Anyone who does not know me by now, I never let a good story get in the way of the truth.

Mountain Bike Rides Are On!

If anyone is interested in a Sunday morning hitout on the mountain bike, I will be leaving from the choice petroleum on Phillip St at 8am.

I will also be taking a MTB ride on Wednesday mornings, so for anyoone who wants to do a mid-week ride, we will be leaving from the choice petroleum at 5am. We will do an hour or so on the the "Sunshine" track. What a great way to start the day.

And yes... you WILL need lights.

If it is not raining tomorrow, we will try and drag the bunch up Haddock drive before the coffee shop.

EARLY MORNING RECOVERY MTB RIDE

Its good to be back on the bike again, and it is days like this that make the riding so much better.

My legs pulled up a little sore from yesterdays double hadock circut, so I thought I would do a lap around Ray's mountain bike track.

I can't really say I smashed around the "Sunshine" track as the GARMIN dobbed me in.

We are so lucky to be living in Gladstone, there is so much bushland just over our back fence. When I get back from TREK world we will be ramping up the mountain bike rides, and yes, I have already got my new bike on order.

The Yarwun Handicap

For anyone who didn't turn up to the race at Yarwun on saturday, just a quick rundown on the day.

The M1 riders were in strong force on the weekend, with big numbers accross the board. It looked like a great day for a the handicap, slight headwind on the way out, and what seemed like a great tailwind for the way back.

The winds quickly changed about a quarter into the race, with the way back in becoming more frustrating by the kilometre. I couldnt tell which way the winds were blowing, it was one of the hardest races in a long time.

From my end of the race, all I could see was marty, sean, mick, and worm pulling turns from hell. There was no way people could match the speeds these guys were pulling. Although, from all the effort and hard work these guys put in, it was not enough to catch the front 3 markers.

Only seconds infront, old Russ got the win. I rekon that blokes got more heart and determination then most people.

Well done to everyone in the race, everyone in M1 colours did extremely well.

Ups and Downs Ride

Going for a sunday ride with the girlfriend seems to be the activity of choice for the boys in M1 land.

Falling off for no particular reason seems to be the choice for the girls in M1 land.

As a wise man once said to me- " training with the girlfriend has its ups and downs, and downs."

Where Are They Now?

Storing photos on computers is great - on most occassions. But every now and then, you come across one hidden in a file somewhere, that you wish just didn't exist.

Here's the M1 Racing Team from 2007 just before the start at the Kremese Course in Rockhampton - in our VERY attractive fluro M1 jerseys - WHAT WERE WE THINKING!!! Krystal Cranks used to refer to the jerseys as the "council worker" vests.... I wonder why.

So where are we all now....

Thunder - still the same. Perhaps the mouth has gotten a little louder to compensate for the recent lack of training.

IJ - racing like a demon in Brisbane, and placing in most Master A races. If you saw his legs now, you would have a fit - cut to threads.

Me - putting around on 2 legs more often than on two wheels. I still have a really nice bike though!

Zulu - forever the warrior. Never admitting to the full extent of his training sessions... and always dragging around his better half Bam Bam.

Durand - studying to be a dentist - straight A's from what I hear. Little on the bike riding front though.

I can't quite remember Zulu, but was 2007 the year I smoked you in the Calliope to Bilo???? Can you remind me please.

New Rides... Comments Needed

The M1 Cycles Cycling Committee is in the process of making rides safer for our fellow cyclists. We are trying to decide what sort of rides would be better, what times, and where they will start and finish.

With the traffic around the marina in the afternoons, we think rides should be further away, and at different times, and we are thinking it would be better to have bunchys on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Thursday- leave from craigs bakery at 5.00am- head out to kirkwood, through beacher, then back over haddock drive, finishing at the bakery for a coffee.

Wednesday - a float ride the same as thursday but without all the hills, mayve a couple laps of kirkwood.

Let us know what you all think.

The Madone - As Rated By Wade Morgan

Its not very often that you come accross a bike that absolutely blows you away. One that really nails how the bike looks, feels, and most importantly, priced.

The 2012 Trek Madone 5.2 was the only bike that world renound bicycle enthusiast and designer, Wade Morgan took his time to rate.

As quoted- "The 2012 trek madone is one of the most beautiful bicycles on the planet. The feel as it corners, the bike literally assists you in the sprint, it climbs with you, and puts out more than you give. You can ride for days and not get sore. It is THE most responsive, most comfortable bike on the market." - Wade Morgan.

As we all know, the Madone was not one of the cheapest bicycles on the market. It was for the hardcore bicycle enthusiast who knew what quality was, who knew that a bicycle must not be judged by components, but by the heart of the bike itself- the frame.

What astounded Wade, was that the 5 series bike was no longer $5500, it was no longer $4500, it was that the Madone 5.2 is now only $3799.

Trek has put there design and marketing geniuses to work and created a full OCLV frame standard for a 5 series bike. The 5.2 is available in 2 colours- Dark Charcoal, or as above, Leopard TREK team replica colours.

You can now stand an extra foot taller when asked what bike you ride. This is the real thing, a real bike, a Trek.

RETURN OF KING KUNDA SPARKS RACE CANCELLATION

King Kunda is furious after organisers cancelled the upcoming Hyne Timbers Criterium. The event has now been downgraded to a restricted open. A conspiracy theory has enveloped the World of cycling over this controversial decision.

Management for King Kunda at the King Kunda Akademy (KKA) believe an underground movement was formed and quickly gained momentum when word surfaced of the King's imminent return for this event.

A spokesperson from the KKA who wishes to remain anonymous, said he believed this underground movement was instrumental in having the open event shut down. "I think everybody knew the King was going to tear the field apart, and there were a lot of people who knew their reputations would be destroyed by this the legend and ambassador of the KKA".

Police have been called in to investigate if there has been any illegal standover tactics used on the Fraser Coast Cycling Club. Rumours are running rife that the underground movement started in Gladstone.Mr King Kunda is believed to have hung back up his bike and it is up in the air at this stage if he will select another race to display his superior ability to win races on a Big Mac deal a day, with a training regime that consists of riding 4km to his nearest MacDonalds store.

Tuesday Paceline, 16th

This mornings ride started off well. Numbers were down, but that didnt matter.

The paceline was ridden perfectly, no captain surgios and no one dropping wheels, whilst still maintaining that tingle in your legs.

LG reported the average speed of the paceline 38.5km/h, and an average of 285 watts.

Not sure what sweeney todd is doing in his own time, but he is pulling monster turns, barely keeping the bunch on his wheel.

Winter is almost over guys, that should mean no more excuses.

The Doms Trek

If you are after, or know of anyone who is after a
cheap carbon roadie, The Dominator is selling his Madone 4.5 for $2000.

This is a great bike, at a great price, and believe me when I say that it has been maintained to the highest level.

It even comes with cages!

Get onto matty at the shop if your interested.

The Botanic To Bridge

Ok, so its a roadie site and this post isn't really roadie related... but who cares.

The Botanic to Bridge run is on this Sunday - 8ks or 3ks. Nominations have closed. I'm nominated and keen for a hit out after 8 weeks of putting around the place on two legs instead of two wheels.

I just heard a rumor that the Zulu wants to run beside me..... I have an 8 week head start on the Zulu in the running department... could this be an opportunity to repeat our first Calliope to Bilo road race - me beating the Zulu Warrior!!!!!????????

I HOPE SO!!!!!!

Leopard and Trek World Racing Kits

Here we go ladies and gentlemen, the long awaited Leopard Trek cycle kits are available at M1 Cycles. Now you dont have to buy that cheap stuff off the net that falls apart, because these kits are made by CRAFT.

Limited sizes available, so be quick!

Mountainbiking at Tannum Sands

For anyone who has never ridden their mountain bikes around the tracks at tannum, you have no idea what you are missing out on.

Yesterday, Matty Knowles, Mick Upton, Vaughn Flowers and I went out for a 2 hour smash through the back tracks of tannum.

Matty and Michael go out most sundays, leaving at 7 o'clock from the Tannum side of the bridge.

All rides finish at the coffee club, with a round shouted my Matty.

I think we will start alternating rides between gladstone and tannum. One weekend in town, and the other at tannum.

Any questions or ideas on what should happen, feel free to call the shop and talk to me.

The True Love Ride

Hmmmm now what do you think when you first see this photo???

For me - its Deja Vu. Here's Bree - Grainfed's better half - on this mornings ride around Tannum. Now the story according to Grainfed is that Bree "didn't complete the hill circuit properly, so I made her do it again"......

I know why that bike is on the ground Bree.... I've been there before. Roadie Chick lesson #1 - don't let your boyfriend coach you - it usually ends in tears and thrown bikes!!!!!

The Ponderer

I'm fairly convinced that i've seen just about everything at M1 Cycles, but this just takes the cake.

As you know, a few weeks ago Lochie did his first MTB race at Byfield. At first, I didn't know who was prouder - me or Matt. Now I know. Here I am sitting at the shop whilst Matt puts a pair of slick tyres and toe clip pedals on another mtb for Lochie... specifically designed for his ergo sessions - I'm not kidding.

The only thing Thunder couldn't decide was whether or not he could lace the powertap into the back wheel......

The Coffee Shop Gossip

So the Blogmistress was out for a leisurely stroll early this morning and whom does she pass just near the cemetry???? It appeared to be the Ghost of Croz... it was early in the morning, it was dark and I could have been mistaken!

I'm pleased to say though that as the roadies arrived at the bakery, Croz was amongst them - in the flesh. And its about time too Croz - you started the Sunday morning sess from Bunny's, so its only appropriate that you turn up (every now and then!).

In other coffee shop gossip, there are whispers in the M1 branches that a certain Bam Bam has not only conquered the infamous One Tree Hill but also the backside of Haddock drive! A few months ago, Bam Bam couldn't make it up Auckland Hill on the Sunday Sess - now's she's cutting laps up Haddock and One Tree! You ROCK Bam Bam!!!!

Kundas Diary

We have been a little too busy at the shop to post anything decent on the blog, so here is a quick summary of Kunda's training program so far...

On the weekend just gone, my training began in earnest.I exceeded all my expectations, doing 50km on Saturday, 10km more than what I had planned.

Sunday went to schedule with a massive 100km ride.I even cut back on the Big Mac deals to just one on Saturday. Admittedly though, I have had another two this week, one yesterday and one Monday, but I believe my diet is coming together beautifully.

I have decided to lift my training program to 60km this Saturday, followed by 110km on Sunday.

My appetite for legs have returned. And I am not talking about the ones on the end of 6 foot blondes I normally feast on, I am talking about the ones I will be tearing apart on September 10 at the Hynes Timber Criterium.

This year if I instigate a break away like I did last year, I hope whopever is with me can pull turns with me.
