Parkhurts Criterium- Round 5
It was a terribly tough day in the office for all the M1 Cycles riders at the last round of RCC's Parkhurst Criterium. The winds were up, and the heat was soaring, making it the most uncomfortable weather to race in.
The race brang along Mark Adamson, and Mark Ruthenberg joining Jodine in C grade. They all held the field tight and were being very competitive throughout their race. Unfortunately a crash on 3rd last lap has the race cancelled. M1 and M2 were some of the few that didnt hit the deck. Just goes to show that you are always to be aware of your surroundings, no matter what grade or race your in.
B grade had a firm field this time around, with Ray and Arch giving to everyone they could. Unfortunately, coming down to the sprint, the couldnt keep pace with the big boys and girls.
Dylan Nankivell and Brad Lawlor battled it out once again (against eachother or the field, we will never know), but failed to miss the jump with 15 minutes to go. Chaddy, Worm and Macca all proceded down the road, managing to put half a lap into Brad and Dylan, who rode a 41kph tempo for the last 15 minutes. In the end Dylan flicked Brad in the sprint, claiming 4th.
Final points were in from all 5 rounds of the Parkhurst Criteriums. Brad Lawlor claimed 3rd overall, Dylan Nankivell 2nd overall, and Glen Chadwick taking out 1st place for the entire series.
Remember- Easy Sunday roll leaves at 5.30am from the front of M1 Cycles. Be there!

Dusted and Smashed
Lots to cheer about down here at the Otway Odyssey. Many a yarn to spin too. The 2012 OO is Done and Dusted.
The Rocket proved that if you sprinkle a bit of readymix on your weeties every morning you can finish an 100k MTB Marathon. Not just any old marathon either, one of the toughest in this big brown land.
Hef held up his end of the bargain and notched up a metric ton off road too, even if he encountered plenty of 'heated' language from his co- pilot.
Kaz pulled off a credible 87k before withdrawal, solid! effort on minimal training. And cleared the pristine wilderness rainforest of gel wrappers as she rode; why people think its ok to drop rubbish is beyond me.
We didn't come home with the prizes but we had plenty of giggles and z top day playing in the dirt.

13 Lucky for some
Hef and Rocket are through the 87k mark with 13 to go. A long tough day but in good spirits. Kaz is not far behind.
Race time
Nice and cool by the coast this morn. 100k off road. Bit of nervous energy and a bucket load of bikes and riders. Will Hef smash it at the start and hang on til the end? Will Kaz and Rocket find their way thorough the Otways? Will the Treks perform flawlessly? Stay tuned. Log on to Rapid Ascents website for live updates through the day and see how the M1 MTB Team is doing.

The Otway Odyssey weekend begins
Kaz is already in Melbourne and apparently it's raining (and she has no umbrella).
Sneaky Pete is lounging at the airport waiting for a flight. 6 weeks ago he was lying in a hospital bed with a broken back. Support crew and media officer for the weekend; even without bike.
Rocket and Hef have wound up their working week, packed their wheels and are champing at the bit, but have to sleep first before leaving home base.
Bring it on.

The Wednesday Night Ride
The Wednesday Night rides are about the kick off again... but this time with a twist. This time you'll go off road, get a little bit dirty but have a tonne of fun.
Leaving from the Choice Petroleum at 5:30pm, Hef is going to take the bunch up into the Sunshine Track for a bit of night time exploration. Depending on who turns up, the ride could end up in the State Forest and beyond.
Be there next Wednesday night, with your lights and plenty of mozzie spray!!!!!

TLD Toowoomba 2 Day Criterium
As we all know Dylan Nankivell and Brad Lawlor headed south last night to compete in the event.
The crit was on today, and in every grade, the racing was hot and heavy. The crit was held on the 1000m circuit (half course), with plenty of uphills and sweeping corners to keep you on your toes.
Brad started the first two laps in a breakaway with a couple of Mainline boys, was not long until he realised that he couldnt hold the tempo that the boys were expecting, so he dropped back to the pack to continue racing.
Dylan rode strong, covering every attack, attacking at every chance, and holding breaks, but unfortunately the Mainline team had the race smarted out, and blocked at most chances they could.
It was a tough race for Brad with the constant uphills and surging pace, having to "sprint" up both the uphill sections every lap, he was on the edge of pulling the pin far too many times. The Toowoomba circuit just isnt the typical criterium for a bigger lad. At the same time Dylan was doing it easy, just cruising and riding the race how it should.
In the end the boys both pulled top 6 sprint finish, with Brad closing a close 4th, and Dylan just behind in 6th.
Its always on your mind to win, or place every time you turn up to a race, but sometimes it just isnt possible. Accepting that 4th and 6th were great outcomes, they are focusing on tomorrows 70km kermese, hoping to hold a strong race and keep it together.
It will be great to have more M1 and Gladstone cyclists head south in the coming months to compete as a team, and race as a team so we can all have a proper race against the big boys.

The STRAVAnator
I'm not one to boast, or tell you how well the riding is going, but when i pull up my STRAVA dashboard every week and see that I am smashing the most famous sprints and KOM's in M1 land, I just thought it was time to show all my fellow fat cyclists out there that we can be KOM's and we can be sprint kings.
Here is all my achievements and winning times, some even from last year.

I am encouraging any hill climber and decent sprinter to come and take my titles from me.

Parkhurst Criterium Round 4
Brad was unfortunate this time in this race and was unable to hold turns with the guns, he should be back with a vengeance in the near future...
Well done to all M1 riders, it was a great turn out, with even better results.
Dylan Nankivell and Brad Lawlor head south this weekend to compete in the Toowoomba two day event. It involves a criterium on saturday and a 70km kermese on sunday. Maybe Brads loss on the weekend was just a taper for this weeks big open event. Only time will tell...
