Michael England
Local Gladstone Cyclist has unfinished business, a notch missing from his cycling career top tube:
The Australian Road Cycling National Championships.
Mick is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, but put him on a bike in a competitive setting and he is transformed into a ferocious competitor; his nickname Turbo, has something to with his incredible athletic ability; he'll just keep winding it up to decimate the opposition. Amazingly he does this in the friendliest way, and it's almost as though he's done you a favour in winning.
Sunday, January 11, 2015, he'll line up with the international cycling elite to test his mettle. When I spoke to him about it, he just said, "It's just something that I haven't done." When you take into account he'll be on the start line in Ballarat with the likes of Cadel Evans, Richie Porte (recently touted as the strongest cyclist in the world right now), and Michael Rogers, et al, you get a feeling for how humble Mick is.
After 183.6km and 18 Laps over Bunningyong.... Who knows? He just may surprise everyone.
