Rider Profile - Mick Newell

1. What bike do you ride (road)?
GTR Carbon Pro
2. What would be your dream bike?
Don't know really, something Carbon with Durace or Sram Red, maybe Trek Madone 6.9
3. What's your day job?
Arresting naughty people
4. What's your favourite ride?
I love the Saturday hitters ride, it is all about surviving the ride to the end, pushing yourself to do he next turn. Sometimes I am that stuffed i need a way to keep my head together, so I count the number of riders to see how long I have got before I get back the front and get smashed again. That way I know I have two minutes of pain then I can relax for a while.
5. Most memorable biking experience?
Melbournes "Around the bay in a day 2008", was a great experience.
6. Least memorable biking experience?
Bit of a toss up really, either stopping at the lights and falling over in front of the whole hitters bunch on my first ever Tuesday Hitters ride, or watching Catriona smash straight into the side of a Jaguar which failed to give way to her in Frankston. Victoria. She went over the bonnet, snapped the ornament off and landed on he road on the other side. Looked nasty at the time. Like a typical M1 trooper ,she bounced up, gave him a gob full and rode off.
7. Bike rider you admire the most?
On the international scene I admire Cadel Evans and Stewart O Grady, on the local level I admire the commitment Ian Johnstone has to his riding, he deserves every win he gets, Matty keeps the world turning, and my "head on", he has always been great support to me and provides me with "counselling" whether I need it or not, Kittstar is always there to push me along with a kind word or bit of advice when I am feeling "the box" catching me up. and Farm Boy just for being a bloody freak. How does he climb like that?
