The Rumour

Rumour has it that this man, aka Bloomers, made a return the M1 Bunch on the weekend. Apparently he was there at the carpark at the start of the ride and he was there for a brew at Craig's, though in his tracky-dacks. Not sure what happened in between, but....rumour has it.. he never made it out of the carpark; the obligatory flattie. At least tradition is being upheld, Bloomers is known to have a flattie or three.
I've heard of the no-lights-no-ride policy, but this is new; "no-air-in-tyre-no-ride."

Weekend Riding

So the weekend has begun and there's lot's of riding to be done.  Some of us were up early, out in the dark, trying to steal more dirt Strava Scalps whilst others put their skirts on and pulled up at the coffee shop before the bunch ride had even begun - well technically it had I guess.... by about 400m from what I hear.  Oh and Mr Anderson - sitting at Craig's for a good hour and a half isn't going to help you on the Quarry... or the other one I passed you on this morning.

If you're still in town for the remainder of the long weekend, don't forget the bunch rides tomorrow - take your pick:  MTB at 5am.  Easy roadie at 5:30am and L Plate MTB at 8am.

Perhaps there will be some mountain bike madness on Monday???? - stay tuned.  We'll keep you updated with riding plans for Monday.

On a final note, I just had to steal SpyCat's photo from this morning - life at it's best: sunshine,  a pink bike and a coffee cup in the back bottle holder.

The Summer Sunday

It was a small, but "quality" bunch of riders that rolled out yesterday morning on the Sunday roadie ride - everyone even managed to have their knicks on the right way, which was a great start to the day!

Frenchie was in heaven, thinking it was a lovely summer's day rolling along in just a summer jersey and giving us all a lesson in French at the coffee shop..... "Cul-De-Sac" will never have the same meaning ever again!

The Dirty Rats lived up to their name, arriving at Craig's completely covered in mud, doing skin-fold fat tests and sporting one smashed phone screen and a broken derailleur - there's never a dull moment in the Rat Pack.

The 8:00am L Plate ride had a good turn out, complete with Mick B and Coach Carter making a prayer to the Trail Gods before the start - just kidding, they were just doing some stretching laying all over the grass.  The group split into two after a lap around Wendy's with the new riders staying on Wendy's for a lesson with Coach Carter and the not so new riders heading up for a lap around the Sunshine track - complete with an Over-The-Handlebar-Dismount by Zulu.... more coaching needed perhaps Zulu???

How To Grow A Zulu - Addenda added, see below.

The secret is out on how to grow super-human Zulu strength...... mountain bike through the long grass of the Gladstone trails and "seed" your face with every grain you can!

Either you'll end up with super-human strength or an infected eye in the case of Hef - here's hoping for the super strength!

Ps - the downside is that you'll have to mow your face instead of shave and you'll end up with a look that only a mother could love!

Addenda (by Sneaky Pete). You must remember this....
4yrs ago to the day this is 'how you grew a Zulu', how the legend really began:

"Rumors are being spread by the members of the M1 tribe that one of our hardcore hitter tribesman has started - dare I say it on the blog - RUNNING..."

"The legend continues that the tribesman has started with just a 4 minute run increasing by 1 minute every week. This may sound like a small run, but according to the legend, this is how the Zulu's train. Running at 4 min / mile pace until they can no longer hold that speed. No wonder this tribesman had sore legs on the Wednesday hitout."

From now on, this rider shall be known as - Zulu.

As the M1 Cycles Blog reaches a third of a million page views and nearly 5 years since inception it is good to see The legend continues.... Zulu, a legend, still hard as nails and an inspiration to us all.
